this game was one of the reason that I became an aerospace engineer... I drew those space ships, fighters, battlecruisers.... maaaann it was cool, still it is

That was 17 years ago, when we came here to experience a new universe. We've come a long way since then, we've grown older, we've seen graphical improvements, the rise of VR and the triple A's, but we will never forget... ...Freelancer.

We will never forget Freelancer It's a shame we don't have more games with this quality

I remember exploring the fringe star systems in Freelancer after finishing the main story (which is a timeless epic), exploring the Tau and Omega systems, finding hidden jump holes and eventually reaching the Corsairs homeworld. Learned their surprising history and bought the legendary Titan ship with their epic shields and weapons. Freelancer was way ahead of its time.

to this day,i'm amazed of the game's playability, graphics, and overall stability.
  • i am glad that they didn't use this intro for the final game because it would have spoiled so much... i was a teen when i played Freelancer for the first time back in 2003 and i remember being very intrigued by the story. the whole time i assumed that there was some evil shadow organization planning to take over all of the colonies using alien technology. so when the story revealed the Nomads as not only still alive but being the actual antagonists who gradually infiltrate and influence/brainwash humanity, i was mind blown. the whole game up until that point was about you fighting humans with alien civilizations assumed extinct. then all of a sudden, alien reveal. that was such a great and awesome moment... i wouldn't have had that moment or the memory of it had this been the intro that the game shipped with 'cause it totally spoilers the whole Nomad reveal XD

the only game that truly deserves remaster that never comes.
  • @smokinggnu6584
Now this is a game that deserves a remastering for current technology, maybe put in a bunch of the cut content that was left out in the end.
  • After so many years, this is the first time I see this extended intro version! Now the story makes more sense... That game was so fucking good and years after I was hoping somebody will make a sequel or something similar. I had to wait more than 10 years until 2015 to play the only game that comes close to Freelancer: Elite Dangerous.
  • "The hope was for them to begin again, far from the war, strife that had befallen Earth. To start free from the prejudices that had divided us for so long." What's so ironic is that it really didn't change much. War and prejudice still reached sirius. Liberty, Kusari, Britonia and Rhineland were allies and yet by the time of the game they had been competing with each other and had come close to war several times. Rhineland had even gone to war with GMG, a Kusari faction.

That game was massive, I remember exploring the galaxy for a long time even after completing the main story, it was a great experience.

WE WILL NEVER FORGET! Decades later and I have never forgotten you <3

The CGI on the stardrives is amazing for the time...looks exactly like a real rocket. I wonder if somebody came up with an algorithm using real themodynamics and fluid dynamics....o.O Constricted exhaust plume at launch due to atmospheric backpressure (especially) with a dense, very luminous flow (2:37).Intermediate expansion levels as it leaves the mountain range (so a couple km up, probably) in 2:50 . Expanded, wide flow in low orbit with light not coming from the dilute plume but only the interior of the nozzle (3:15). Even flow instabilities and a certain streaking of the flow is clearly visible. Now check out a Falcon Heavy and a Delta 4 heavy launch. See what i mean ? Of course it looks *different*, but the various stages of flow expansion are here. Whoever directed this video actually did some research and it shows. The new SpaceX Raptor engines will have almost the same exhaust color, so if starship was a bit oval shaped it would be very close to this almost 20 year old game scene....mind..blown.
  • Wow. I have finished this masterpiece game many times, but I have never seen this Intro, until now. It's beautiful!
  • I was 12 when this game came out and I played the shit out of it. Every system 100% . I even remember my last ship, a Titan very heavy fighter with Diamondback turrets. Damn thing was invincible.
  • @ralph1125
Loved Starlancer, Loved Freelancer... games like these are not made anymore, sadly.
  • @batman_2004
This intro makes so much sense. Never saw it till now.
  • @fatumteam
I am really shocked, 18 years later this game still gives me something new, this time, a longer (and maybe even better) intro. This was super!

I love the scream of success at 3:33 when they managed to break through the blockade, imagine the happiness you'd feel after securing a win for the last hope of humanity.
