This project is years in the making and will see restoration of the bottom part of the ship.
While in dry dock, a thorough examination will be conducted on approximately 165 underwater through-hull openings essential for various operations, such as engine cooling.
These openings were safeguarded with sheet-metal plates upon the ship’s decommissioning in 1991, and to date, only one instance of failure has been recorded.
The entire operation is projected to span at least two months, with the ultimate aim of returning the USS New Jersey to Camden in time for Memorial Day and the ensuing tourist season.
The Wildwood Video Archive has been documenting every step of the process with this being our 4th video on the Battleship New Jersey.

I served on BB62 from '86-'89. The old girl looks great and so pleased to see her being taken care of. She certainly deserves the best. Firepower for Freedom!

Constructed over 80 years ago, she still looks majestic.

My Dad, long gone, helped build this beautiful ship.

She looks ready for sea right now! Congratulations to Ryan Semanski and all the folks who keep her shipshape! Fair winds and following seas!

New Jersey was part of my battle group in the 80's. Watching, hearing and feeling those 16 inch guns was AWESOME!

Magnificent BB-62 ! And Ryan wasn't lying, not a curator's width between the mast and the bridge! 😅

Old soldiers never die, they just fade away. But this giant soldier never fade away.

In 1958, my father took our family to the Bayonne, NJ Naval Yard to visit the battleship New Jersey and the USS Franklin, "Big Ben" a WWII aircraft carrier. It was probably Memorial Day weekend. We toured the New Jersey and I remember how incredibly big it was. As a result I have always had a soft spot for the New Jersey. The Franklin tour took us on the flight deck and the air plane hangar. It was like being inside a huge warehouse. Many displays, some electronic were set up for us visitors to inspect. It was an exciting experience. The Franklin is long gone, having been sold to the scrappers but it is great to see the New Jersey live on.

Heading for some well deserved R&R. Thank you Miss NJ for all you've done to help keep America free and for the those who made the ultimate sacrifice aboard. May you float majestically for all time to let us all remember that freedom is not free.

When I arrived in Viet Nam in August 1969, I just missed the New Jersey. Guys talked about how the whole country seemed to shake when the old gal was firing. I regret missing her. It is good to see she is being taken care of.

The two kinds of ships that people remember most are the Battleships and our Aircraft Carriers.
