This YouTube Video constitutes non-infringing fair use under U.S. copyright law because it is transformative in nature, uses no more of the original than necessary, and has no negative effect on the market for the original work.

That first clip actually cuts off early. In the original, the guy walks a few extra paces and collapses to the floor as he falls unconscious.
  • @TheEulerID
Rule #1 at traffic lights, is don't just gun it when the lights turn green, but look to see that the cross traffic has actually stopped. You aren't at the drag strip.
  • @MrGuyOnTheFly
Best tip I’ve seen so far is “ride like you are invisible” just assume no one sees you at all times , and ride accordingly . If the dude in the truck clip thought like that he probably wouldn’t have been in that position

This man has taught me to keep myself out of dangerous situations while riding. Being a newer (ish) rider, Im not as informed on the safety aspect of riding other than the bare basics. Dan has genuinely saved my life from the knowledge he has passed to me. God bless Dan for preventing 100s if not thousands of people from crashing from the preventable knowledge he shares on here.

Had my first red stage moment today. Someone merging from the right across my lane to get into the left turning lane just before an intersection (AU, we drive on the left). I was following the scanning patterns you'd described so saw it coming even though they moved so late I had no room to break. Swerved round them and had to accelerate through. Cheers for helping me stay upright :)

That bit about being in a group ride all the time with every car around you was insightful

Dan, just wanted to comment that i hear your voice say "open lane pattern" and "stay staggered" in my daily rides. You have no idea how many times youve saved me.
  • One of my buddy has to see this guy's videos. He simply rides like a maniac and wants us to ride along with him.

10:53 - in the UK, if you read the highway code, it doesn;t say green means go, you have absolute priority. It says Green means proceed if clear to do so. Just as the motorcyclist was happy to chance an amber turning to orange the car driver was happy to chance amber turning to red. Both in the wrong but as a vulnerable road user the motorcyclist ought to have some self preservation and assume drivers will be daft.

Why would anyone want to be in sitting in a blindspot with a huge vehicle… law of gross tonnage always prevails.
  • @MrDodgerfred
That being aware when you’re looking at the side of a car tip has kept me out of trouble a bunch of times in the past two years. Thank you, Dan!
  • @eberhardh
Dan, your vids are brilliant! Thx a ton! I am a safety instructor myself in Germany and can underline everything you say. It is really surprising how often in normal life sensible people leave reason behind as soon as they have a throttle in their right hand. And never forget: as a biker, you never can win, you are always the weaker one on the road. Even if its your right. Leave your ego at home. Being right but being in the ditch is always stupid. Ride safe at all times!
  • Nearly all the crashes in this video (and most of ddfm/motostars vids) are people playing irresponsible stupid games and winning painfully stupid prizes. I'm not interested in dudes doing 160 or crossing double lines or what not and crashing their bike. We're not learning anything from analyzing that and they'll probably never learn to drive responsibly. I'm more interested in situations a responsible rider can find himself in that present a hazardous situation.

2:52 - He did want to wheelie it - but thought he still had Lift control on (in fact, he is in M mode - which is a custom setting for traction-, slide- and lift-control). Bike is a MT-09 from 2021+ (RN69) and has so much torque in mid-RPM, it's almost impossible not to wheelie it when accelerating.
  • @TheCdubbleyoo
"you're in a group ride with everyone else on the road"...well, there it is.
  • Educational YouTube channel DanDan, I am a motorcycle instructor in the Netherlands and I can point out unexpected events in traffic to students via your YouTube channel. Very valuable...thank you!
  • @HawgRiderBC
I don't know how colored lights work wherever the guy shouting "green light" is, but that light looked red to me?
  • @Jon_Bass4001
9:21 “You’re in a group ride with every other vehicle on the road” is a great way to put it, Dan!
  • @kevinkephart
Dude, I absolutely love this video. You bring science/logic/psychology and SAFETY to light in this video. I am brand new, but have had multiple incidents (not accidents) with road bikers and myself in my truck, where they have no common sense about safety. But this is an awesome and very informative video
