I Got $1083 Compensation on my Last Cruise - Here's How

I recently disembarked a cruise and it’s safe to say that the cruise didn’t exactly go to plan. We had bad weather, we were seasick, we had issues with excursions but I did come away from the cruise with $1083 in compensation which definitely made a big difference.

I’ve spoken to lots of other people who were on the cruise who missed out, some of which only realised that they were entitled to compensation when they got home and because they had to do a few things while onboard, it was too late.

A chance conversation once with a stranger on the Lido deck once opened my eyes to missed port insurance. She had missed several and also had a delayed return. After the cruise lines refunds and insurance claims she had paid less than £100 for a 16 night cruise. First thing I did was upgrade my cruise insurance to cover all bases. So glad you all got some money back.

We were on Iona in nov/dec and had 2 missed ports 1 changed port and we departed 24hrs late. The insurance company paid out £800 more than we paid for the cruise so we were thrilled to bits
  • My last cruise was before covid on this ship, I had exactly the same experience! I’ve cruised since I was a young child and this was my first cruise as an adult and I was almost put off! I’m loving your videos, Cunard is my favourite company to cruise with because I love the formality of the trips. The venture was horrific in my opinion xxx

Oh man I wish I knew this! We missed a port back in Jan 2020! Wish I knew about this then - will definitely remember if this happens on our next cruise so thank you!

Good for you! And it was great that you read that policy to understand what you needed to do. I am glad that it worked for you and your family. Great information and good lessons to pass along.
  • Thanks to your video we were able to claim £200 through our insurer for a Missed Port last year. We tipped off relatives who had a similar experience later in the year & they were also able to make a claim. Thanks for highlighting this compensation.

Thanks for another brilliant video Emma - this is so helpful and informative 😀 cruise specific travel insurance really is a must for any cruise, and taking the time to read that small print can make all the difference 😊 We are glad to see that your claim was processed so quickly! That's a great result!

  • I'm glad you got it, but sorry for those who missed it. Thank you for the info; getting compensation is always nice. I just checked, and I have that coverage as well.

Thank you Emma for the helpful information. Definitely will now read the cruise insurance policy when we purchase it. I am glad you received money back.

Great video Emma!!! Always helps to read some of that fine print, you never know, might get some back back....
  • Excellent information. Thanks sooo much for sharing ♥️♥️♥️
  • Thanks Emma. On a P&O cruise where we missed ports a note from the Captain could be picked up from reception. You have certainly highlighted something we now need to be aware of.
  • Great insight Emma, really useful video. We missed a port on Oceana and P&O gave everyone a letter regardless, guess it depends on the management team onboard
  • I could listen to you talk all day long. And thank you for posting informative and interesting videos.

I'm heading out on my first cruise since the restart in 11 days. I'm driving to the port and it's only a 4 day cruise with 1 port but I still bought insurance. You just never know. Thanks for the link on your website. It made it so easy to find a good policy.
