On the 22nd July 2011, Norway would be struck by an unprecedented double attack. The brainchild of one just man, Anders Behring Breivik had spent years meticulously planning for his killer spree. Diagnosed at a young age as having psychological problems, the strain of his troubled family life would begin to show as he reached adulthood. The formerly well-regarded Breivik would retreat from all social life, and retreat into the world of online gaming and extreme politics. He became obsessed with the notion that Islam was a threat to Norway, and so Breivik planned to strike out at those he held responsible.

  • Norwegian here. I need to explain something. Yes, our maximum prison sentence is 21years, BUT, we do have laws that puts ppl into something we call 'forvaring' - witch Breivik got, and witch means to 'keep' the prisoner - possibly for the rest of the prisoner's lives, in witch they force the inmates to go through psychiatric evaliuations every year. Breivik will never be released.

I remember when this happened....and the disbelief that it was truly one man

Just started watching. Been avoiding the thumbnail for a few days, cos even as i am not Norwegian, but a Finn deeply fond of our beautiful amazing generous and loving neighbors, The Norwegians..this sad and horrific chapter still cuts deep, like it was yesterday, the memories of -WHO and WHAT is capable of doing something like this in the nicest country in the world? If i still hurt this much, i cannot even fathom the pain these families and survivors and the Norwegian nation as a whole must feel. Love you all. Peace to the best neighbors in the world.

It is so sad that Norway has experienced such a cruel crime. But no country has a 100% protection from situations like this. However Norway is one of the most beautiful countries on this earth. Wish every country would have this sort of mind set🙏

I am from England,2024 my heart goes out to all that lost their lives and the families and friends. To the monster who premeditated the whole terrible act I hope you rot in jail.

The shock of living in a country without such fears and that your very trust in humanity led to your demise on that day...perhaps later... Those who survived will never be the same...physically...mentally...emotionally... Families destroyed... One person...!!! 🇿🇦
  • This was so sickening I remember when it happened, it seemed to take authorities forever to intervene, as if the island had no phones or means of communications. He was on that island for HOURS, hunting and killing CHILDREN!!!😵😩😪
  • The law need to be reformed 77 ppl loss their lives and thousands of lives destroyed 21 years is ridiculous 😢
  • @Vili-mf4wx
Ok, so how crazy is that the NEWS helicopter was there to film 30minutes of it, but no police! Where were the cops??
  • I remember this and I was horrified. Was it hatrid or a mental health breakdown that he'd had years ago and had kept hidden by being isolated? All of those poor, frightened people--I can't imagine what they experienced.
  • @PrinceMuha
21 years for 77 people This is crazy 😢
  • @nc_elle
Rest in eternal peace to all the victims😢😢😢

NO, HE'S NOT GETTING OUT SOON! He's sentenced yo forvaring which means he has to meet a parole board and they're never letting him out as long as he doesn't change his mind about what he believes in.
  • @lisamcgrath987
I can’t believe he has survived this long in prison! I thought prisoners would have taken care of him. Especially since he killed children.
  • @bugsybugs2253
I remember this horrific story and how terrified those teenagers would have felt. Its so sickening that one demented personcan destroy so many people's live.
  • 21 years is the first opportunity for parole, but someone who has murdered 78 people will never get out of jail. The filmmakers should have clarified that.

When you hate a baby enough, that baby will come back, but not at you .... at society as a whole. It will hate humanity.
  • I still remember the utter horror of his crimes. I admire the Norwegian culture, and the way the country focused on coming together is another example of its benefits.
