Pretty sure Tomlin knows the difference between West side and West coast. He either meant Western PA which is where Pittsburgh notably sits, as opposed to Eastern PA which has Philly. Big point of their East/West rivalry. The time difference between the coasts is also probably not what's getting in the way of a phone call, even an early morning one. Coach T always just says random things to confuse sports media when they asks him questions he thinks are stupid or repetitive. If he isn't traded before the trade deadline, he plays for the 49ers and enters free agency next year. After caving to Kittle, Deebo, and Bosa in previous negotiations, they've decided they aren't going to cave to Aiyuk. And Aiyuk has seen that there is a market for him. The 49ers do not have the cap space to take on a 25 million dollar WR tender by franchise tagging him in 2025, even if the league wide cap exceeds expectations to 280M and the 49ers rollover every dollar they can from 2024 (~26 million). They would be 3 million under the cap in that scenario, so they would need to manipulate other contracts to afford the franchise tag tender. Shanahan will screw Aiyuk over, putting him back in the doghouse and will use him as a decoy instead of calling plays for him.
