Published 2024-04-28
Elon Musk's surprise trip to Beijing is "a watershed moment" for Tesla, says Dan Ives, managing director and senior equity analyst at Wedbush Securities. He says that the visit is an important opportunity for Musk to unlock Full Self-Driving (FSD) in China, which "is the golden goose" for the carmaker. Ives speaks on "Bloomberg: The China Show."

There's already an oversupply of Macdonalds, Coca-Cola, Kentucky Chickens, iphones. I dun hear politicians complaining. Explain
  • What does this mean for Tesla stocks? Is it advisable for somebody who wants to start investing in stocks for not so long term gains to start with it now?
  • Dan Ives needs to visit China and see for himself. He needs to update and improve his lack of what’s happening in China. It’s moving lightning speed in China
  • @kennySg101
China already has autonomous driving in many cities. Tesla needs China
  • @hycdpv
China do not need Tesla EV nor FSD... Just go to China and experience their EVs, they are already ahead.
  • @newaulk
That Tesla cache is no longer a premium in China, as well as Apple.
  • @dfv671
Most Chinese now believe BYD is better than Tesla Dan Ives! Same thing they are buying Huawei phones over iPhones.
  • @humblehouse
I am curious as to which party is this expert guest referring to by 'watershed moment'? In many of China's biggest cities, driverless taxis, buses, trains are already available on public roads and services. Take out orders (foods and drinks etc) via drone deliveries are also beginning to be offered in cities like Shenzhen. So, I wonder what is so special about Tesla's driverless technology which can interest and impress the Chinese?
  • @yaxixi3882
China does need Tesla, not in EV field, but it shows a gesture about its attitude to foreign companies through Tesla to the outside world .
  • @user-ll9qk2el4d
Stop calling it Full Self Driving. It's not autonomous. Before anyone says otherwise, this is what Tesla's own website said. It tells customers to always monitor and be ready to intervene when necessary, because the system does not work in all conditions.
  • @px7460
If full autonomy is Level 5 (with Waymo at L4 and Tesla at L2), how is "FSD" autonomus?
  • @maxdc988
Your analyst was trying to sit on the fence not to offend Tesla but the truth is, there is nothing that only Tesla can offer that the peers in China can't. New tech needs big Chinese market to grow and prosper, and that includes advanced chips.😂
  • @paulmtor7324
Its a watershed moment so the Mic needs to be dropped and the pop corn need to come out.
  • @ashk4155
Why would China care about fsd when Nio is rolling out NOP
  • @liamporter1137
Tesla needs to have more models in order to compete with China brands. It's so fatigue seeing the same car (look) day in and day out.
  • @skyak4493
Tesla skipped the Beijing auto show. This is wise because it would be obvious that tesla offerings are not competitive. Many of the cars at the show are priced at a steep discount to tesla which is a reference EV. Those cars are often sold at a loss.

I appreciate the insightful contributions from the four individuals. Brother Danives, I want to express my gratitude for your generous sharing of perspectives. Regarding names, you can refer to me as Vince, Kong, Tade, or TadeTade if you prefer. Additionally, although my physical ancestors came from Malaysia for three generations, I was born there. If you were in my position, where would you feel your origin lies? Furthermore, disregarding physical aspects and focusing on inner spiritual consciousness, how should I present myself to make it easier for you to express who ?
