I hope jonathan gets hired to work on designs for fictional sci fi weapons for games, movies, etc. Love his fascination with how they work while still understanding the priority is entertainment and not realism.

The Shotgun is essentially a double barrel Gauss/ Coil gun. Charging the gun allows you to create a series of electromagnetic pulses, accelerating the projectiles even faster than using only the powder charge.

I like the dynamic of Johnathan and Dave discussing the foibles of some of these.
  • @VodkaHellstorm
I like including more of the longer conversations between Jonathan and Dave where they talk about the media itself a little more, great stuff!
  • @Rossen42
I really want to see Jonathan break down the guns from The Order 1886

The revolver magazine one reminds me of the dardick pistol with how it pretty much uses the revolver system to eject the spent casing
  • @Xtafa
I feel the "metel" isnt revolving bullets, i think its rotating barrels to prevent overheating the barrel. Kind of like the Briar from Andor
  • That Warden gun is pretty hilarious to me. I wonder if the devs/designers saw a Makita drill and said "Yes, we need one of those. Same color and everything. Just add some gun-ish stuff to it." It's great.

When I saw 'Her Majesty', my first thought was the HK Mk.23 with the bulky front mounted laser sight/flashlight unit and the suppressor, especially given that likely the most famous digital incarnation of the Mk.23 is as Solid Snake's SOCOM pistol in the Metal Gear series, and the themes of espionage and conspiracy that are iconic in Metal Gear and central to Phantom Liberty, I thought it was a bit of a nod to Metal Gear since the two pistols seem to fulfill similar roles as being the firearm of choice for a secret agent/special forces operative deep in enemy territory with little to no back-up.

5:00 That gun is actually a rail gun (called "tech weapon" in game). The bullets are metal needles accelerated by electromagnetic force and do not need gun powder. So it can carry 21 rounds per magazine.

I kinda like the design of the Unity/Her Majesty. It almost looks like someone took the slide and hammer off an HK 45, and put it in a Hudson frame.

If I'm not mistaken that large rectangle under the tech shotgun is probably a battery, but it requires capacitors to create a high enough current. Those 12 little squares strapped to the barrel are probably those capacitors. I think the game uses animation on them to show the capacitors recharging (because in reality capacitors don't really look all that cool or fancy). So basically I think that gun is a hand held railgun that uses propellant from the shells to assist the acceleration of the slugs? That's the only reason I can imagine such a gun would have recoil.
  • If anyone is curious about the real life counterpart of the strange looking ''NDI Osprey'', you can look up the prototype Barrett model M82A2 It is very close (I'm pretty sure). You can find it in a video from Brandon Herrera where he showcase the Rifle and even do a bit of run and gun called : ''Anti-Aircraft .50 Cal - Super Rare Prototype Weapon''. Have a great day everyone :)
  • @Ostrid1
22:12 that's not the magazine. That's the guns battery for all it's smart systems and features probably.
  • @TugaAvenger
I want to suggest ArmA 3: Prairie Fire. A fantastic Vietnam DLC with both bread and butter weapons and some SOG unicorns that Jonathan would surely appreciate. Cut-down RPDs, Stoners, the Hathcock M2 browning, Armson OEG sights!
  • @diegobunuel2746
I'm surprised Johnathan didn't comment on the resemblance between the miltech ticon and the kriss vektor. They both have the bulky front end that houses the vektor's unique recoil mitigating system.
  • @michaellacy3699
Jonathan's therapist: the Gluger isn't real, it can't hurt you
  • @Ezekiel_Allium
Oh! I can name a direct inspiration for the front end of the Metel revolver. The OTs-38 silent (captive piston rounds) revolver is extremely similar, except the large barrel looking protrusion at the top is a laser and it fires from the bottom chamber of the cylinder.
  • @ExUSSailor
I am LOVING the 2.0 update, and, Phantom Liberty! The new guns, the improved cyberware, the vastly improved engine sounds for the cars, it's like a whole new game!
  • @swannyson8609
The smart guns are really good for vehicle combat specifically when you do the driving missions that randomly spawn, just hold the rear camera button and fire near the driver gun does the rest
