9:35 - 14:18 This guitar solo "hurricane" is not just Mark Knopfler or the Dire Straits, but also one of the greatest 5 minutes of universal rock history. Total audio orgasm.

A dark room, a set of excellent quality headphones & you're in heaven........

The whole album is so incredibly overlooked and underrated. Private Investigations is another masterpiece.

The only problem with this masterpiece is it's ends after just 14 minutes. It should not stop.

Just heard this for the 1st time...... A can't believe 38 years of my life has passed without having this song in it

This song is based on an actual road in SE Michigan. It runs through Pontiac, MI former home of the SIlverdome (and home of the Detroit Lions) and it inspired Mark Knofler to pen this song after Dire Straits played there. Today Telegraph Road runs from Pontiac MI, South through Detroit and to the Ohio border. It is called US24 and continues under various names to Eastern Colorado and the foothills of the Rockies.

Dire straits and Pink floyd these bands so many masterpieces
  • By far the best song by Dire Straits. Heard thousand of times and never bores me. Long guitar solo is amazing!
  • @tonyjones1560
This song and "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd...perfection!
  • There is not a band on the planet that could produce music like this today, and there never will be. Why has the talent we had back then, been lost?
  • @keithwagg3670
It’s difficult to think of a track better than this. Total class.

One of the greatest rock songs of all time!
  • @Sisyfos1000
The finest piece of rock music in my opinion. In this song, there is Dylan, Springsteen...and Knopfler. Always gives shivers and tears. Telegraph Road got so deep and so wide Like a rolling river.
  • I was 17/18 years of age in 1982 when I bought this record. My best schoolfriend also did. I went "nuts" hearing this song. It is beyond everything I had heard and it made a deep impact. It still does. This is a song that "can not be made" and .... Mark Knopfler did😎. I think it is still pretty unbelieveble!

Knopfler is an epic talent - the lyrical poetry of Dylan combined with god-like guitar playing ability

I count myself as so lucky to have seen Dire Straits live in the 80s, not once but twice. I revelled in the moment, but even though I enjoyed them, I just didn't realise exactly how lucky, and privileged I was to enjoy those live concerts. If I could go back, I'd drink up every moment, and treasure them all the more. Pure magic. Bliss music. Such talent.
  • In a bar once I put my money in a jukbox. The jukebox allowed 5 selections. I chose Telegraph Road for all my selections. Over an hour of pure bliss for me! Unfortunately the other punters weren't as enthused as I.
