Stopped magic due to a spinal cord injury that left my fingers paralyzed. The love for it never went away but because of my limitations, I found my way into mentalism which really lends itself to my situation.

I have always loved magic, I purchase my first magic set for myself but I didn’t have support so it was basically me doing tricks to myself. From working with cards to trying to make to make things disappear. Your videos have been so inspiring and amazing, I also love Dave.
  • For me, juggling was the big thing when I was younger. My dad had a friend who did magic, and once he taught me a few things, I practiced regularly. I was around magicians and did more with magic (incorporating some basic stuff into a juggling routine), but I study it more today. (Likely, because there's easier access to learning online than having to drive 50 miles to a magic store to buy a booklet with hand-drawn scrawls that sometimes didn't even make sense. [But I kinda loved that, too! 😀]) The reason I don't pursue it is I don't prioritize it like I do writing and a couple other things. But damn, I love it...and always will...

I started doing magic a year ago, Your videos got me into it and helped me see the "magic" in magic. I have mostly stopped doing magic but I don't think I'll ever stop loving the feeling of a deck in my hands. I always carry one with me and I love playing with it here and there. Thank you Chris for teaching me this beautiful art. Hope you're doing good.

I think I started to enjoy magic again when I started seeing it through the eyes of the performer, specifically from you. Your passion for the craft and technique resonates. Also with Penn and Teller’s Fool Us, to put magic into a different realm of perspective was a genius transformation.
  • Some people perceive magicians as someone actively trying to fool them...
  • @amirspade
I never really stopped collecting cards or doing magic casually to my family and friends. Being someone who understood the improv aspect it actually helped me in life to a huge extent. It built confidence for me. Once I got a bit older I had too much to do to keep practicing and keep improving, even though I still break out a deck every now and again.

Appreciate the shout out my man! Loved this.

Thank you so much for your content, videos, intros, music (in background), thank you so much for your peaceful videos. They help me with my anxiety and mental health and calmness; and I believe I say on behalf of others as well that it helps them too. So thank you so much Chris and your amazing team and friends. I wish you all the best and blessing from all over the world. Keep smiling, you are not alone 😄

I stopped doing magic halfway through my first semester at college. The main reason was I hated how main stream magic was more about showing off to other magicians or worse those thirst trappy magicians. I like the magicians that focus on the audience having fun. (Jay Sankey is top tier on this). It does seem like this kind of magic is finally coming back and seeing more magicians like you becoming popular (again). Makes me kinda want to get into it again.

This video was a really really cool perspective. Thanks Chris. I got into magic because of you so it's a bit magical to me that you post something super inspiring that I needed.

I got into magic when I found your channel 7 years ago. My daughter was just being born. I practiced hours a day for years. Got pretty good. After some time it started to feel like it wasn't doing anything for me and the shame in wanting to perform and people not really being interested. I'll never give it up and it brings me happiness. I just don't go around street performing anymore. Still, won't catch me without a deck of cards.
  • @ryanvance5554
Always lived magic but got really into magic at 12 - 14 like performing in front of people, and 15-16 I really got into music and that took over, I still do tricks here and there tho
  • @samysnes
I really enjoyed that format of content. Just a laid back, candid, not overly produced discussion about a simple topic. You should do more of that. Even your channel update videos which aim to be "just chatting" feel very heavy and dramatic the way they're shot. They don't feel cozy at all. This just felt like shooting the s*** with some random friend. It was enjoyable.

I'm 39 and I started magic in the early 90s doing rabbit out of the hat stuff until I saw David perform in New York and my mind was absolutely blown. I knew street magic was what I wanted to do. I fell even more in love with magic as if that was even possible. When his special Real Magic aired I taped it with VHS and slowed it down to figure out the slights. The quarter bite and Raven were impossible to me back then. I quickly found the only local magic shop in my area and met three " grumpy old men type" of guys running the place. They were the magicians magician..when they realized I was serious they sent me home with a stack of books as " homework". I would come in every week to the " Studio of Magic" and often times because I was too young to drive my mother would drive me. Whenever a any lady entered this small garage of a magic shop they would pull up a chair, turn on the charm( not cheese) and perform flawless slight of hand. Entertaining her often times for my mother while I shopped and learned. I became professional at about 17yo in 2001. This was BEFORE the internet, cell phones, or you tube were even a thing. So when I was featured on some local news stations having a camera crew follow you through high school was no small thing. Definitely helped with popularity points. It seemed I was destined to to magic. Then the internet boom hit. I remember thinking it was great, but didn't see the other side until one of the owners of the magic store said" we're all dinosaurs now kiddo". I suggested making a internet shop for them but they scoffed at the idea as if I didnt understand something. I didnt at the time. They were out of business within a month. It broke my heart then and it still hurts to even write now. At the same time my father was ill and our family business was starting to struggle. I graduated high-school started college but quit to help my Father and family business. I had to put magic aside even tho I was performing at work and anywhere I could. When the internet boom happened magic was everywhere..so the thing I was bullied for, I was then celebrated for, then became trendy and watered down. I was salty watching cookie cutter hacks find success overnight. (*cough jebreezy). I was maybe 19 or 20 and my friends, family, and agent where asking me to go on the talent shows or make a youtube channel. They didn't know what was going on with my father or at least the severity of it. I didn't want to watch him go down the same way my idols from the magic shop did. Maybe karma is on my side however because I was recently recognized in my home town at a gas station by none other than the news anchor on one of the channels I performed for 20 years ago. The idea of another segment 20 years later was offered to me. I have young children and hope to make it work for them. Having no time however is making it almost impossible. I work 7 days a week as an owner and operator of the family wholesale business. I wouldn't change a thing tho. My father is alive and well today. I learned magic the old school way from older magicians, and books. Books with terribly confusing hand drawings( see fig 29 lol) We had to fail to learn back then which made you so much better at reading your environment and how to interact with it. The answer wasn't always in my pocket.. I still do corporate events for friends and I never say no to a kid. I have many original effects that never saw the light of day.. I'm often told that the way in which learned magic shows in the way I perform. I just wish I had other magicians to collab with IN PERSON and time to perform. Thank you Chris for letting me verbally vomit my life story on your page lol. This particular video hit home because I worked at a well known casino for 4 years and interacted with celebrities like Joe. They hate what they cant control. I'm sure we have all had that one person who thinks he or she " deserves" to know method. Your a real one Chris keep the faith.

Hey Chris, I got very exited when I saw the thumbnail to this video, I just love this kind of content (from you specifically) and love to hear your thoughts on magic and David Blaine! Thanks 😄
  • @domdez
More of these! I reaaally enjoyed the commentary/analysis and laid back conversation
  • @FrEzNoGriZzLY
First, I love anything you post Magic related, commentary, tutorials, street magic, card reviews…whatever so thanks for posting. It’s just as exciting as someone’s favorite music artist dropping an album. Second, I stopped after you, Pandrea and Spade stopped posting videos on Magic. I guess one can say that stupid that I shouldn’t do it because yall do but you guys were what kept that fire lit for me I go back and watch old videos but new stuff always kept me wanting to stay locked in. I’m reading Magic is Dead now, and just bought the Tarbell collection so I plan on getting back in soon. Post more Magic please, cuz you’re awesome and I love it! Lol Lastly, you’re my favorite magician of all time time. I got almost everything 1st related or CR related there is out there except the super rare stuff like v1s. So all to say, thanks for all you do and all your hard work!

I really enjoyed this! I'm way too clumsy to be a magician, but I'm fascinated by the development of illusions & the history of magic. Greetings from Czechia, dear!
