Whale tails are mountain bike features that mimic the back of a whale. They're super fun to ride... but they take a long time to build, even with help. It took 8 days to build this one at Everstoke and it wasn't without a wrench or two thrown into the works.

  • I think “Moby Dig” would be a great name. It sure took a lot of digging to create, and it’s always good to reference classic literature!

Such a good video (as always) Eric - those gaps looked gnarly and I have so much respect for making it rideable for all ! For a name - my vote is call it the "Bridgeback Whale"!
  • @ericmonty
Humphrey! This was a humpback whale that swam up the Sacramento River in Northern California, a few hours from Graeagle, not once but twice, in 1985 and 1990. He got lost and swam almost 70 miles upstream in a freshwater river! The media named him "Humphrey the Wayward Whale."
  • @JonnyDiggit
The feature looks a lot like the slope of a Beluga. So, I would name it "The Blasting Belgua" because it launches the rider out with such force. Love the vids recently!!! Keep them coming 🤟
  • @HYDROPHILPLAYS
If its size really is somewhat fitting I'd name it "Whale for scale" 🐋 Love your building episodes btw!

I love that you decided to put the bridges in. I wish more people would say "no, thats to scary, specialy for less experienced riders. Let's make it a table top." My fear of the gap is much worth than the jump...

That closing shot was amazing. Can't wait to see the trails at Everstoke all come together. Those bridges definitely opened it up to be used as an advancement feature as opposed to only advanced riders which IMO was a great decision.

Name it "Monstro", after the whale that ate Pinocchio. On a side note, I ended up with the exact same scenario. I built a whale tale, and then had to add some tables before we could try it out. I made a video of us trying out that whole trail for the first time too. Love capturing that excitement and anxiety that comes with riding something not just for our first time, but the first time anyone has ridden untested features. Because at that point, you really don't even know it its possible.

Were you an arborist at one point in your life Eric? That tree you cut down wow, looked professional! Love your build episodes! Thanks for sharing!
  • @Scallop
My suggestion for the name is somewhat difficult to pronounce - DUANFAWT - it stands for 'Don't use Amazon Nails for a Whale Tail.' Loved the video!
  • @JohnnyElihue
It probably would have been easier and more secure to just use a drill with long screws the same size as the nails you were trying to use. But I respect you for trying to do it the more "analog" way. Great job
  • I just want to say how much I've appreciated your cinematic approach to making videos over the past year. Your pacing, techniques, and editing have become such a strong focus of your videos. As a current game developer, it's really cool seeing your approach to creative decisions for your channel. Love it man, keep it up! Y'all are doing something incredible.

you really got me on the edge of my seat when the tree fell over
