what would you recommend as a few decent cutaways for getting familiar with some harder pinning? ive been looking at the sparrows serrated/spool/check cutaways, and maybe the core trainer with reload kit (the CI trainer and other locks are on my list, but the price is a bit higher than i can justify atm)

Yes, what you’re saying makes sense, but…as a new lock sport advocate, I can’t dismiss cutaways as just a novelty. If not for cutaway locks, I would never have tried lock picking! Obviously they are just a spring board to lock sport, but I certainly can’t say they were not a valuable beginning learning aid for myself, especially the ones with security pins.
