I do the same thing when doing a divot. Also helps to scuff up the flange with sandpaper to make sure the liquid wp bonds well.

Did you temporarily tighten the clamping ring after the first coat to get the paper tight on the flange?

Hi. This is an infinity clamp. Is the clamping ring installed with the four groves facing up the way you demonstrate or should the groves be facing down. Thank you.
