In the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games Nadia Comaneci became the first gymnast in Olympic history to be awarded the perfect score of 10.0 for her performance on the uneven bars.

Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men. =========================================

funfact: "the scoreboard manufacturer was led to believe that it was impossible to receive a perfect ten, thus the scoreboard was not programmed to display that score. Comăneci's perfect 10 thus appeared as 1.00"

The way she lands is so soft, it's almost like she's floating.

50 years later and still a breathtaking performance for the ages.

She looks like she's having so much fun! Her dance movements are so lively and energetic. So different from the mechanical dance routines gymnasts perform today. She is a performer, not just a gymnast!

The fact that she was just 14 has me dead 💀
  • @Rachel-hg1gn
She makes it look so easy, doesn't she? And her moves are not like anything the girls are doing now. Wow!
  • I don't recall any gymnast capturing the heart of the public like Nadia did back in 1976. She even had a song named after her - "Nadia's Theme".
  • Shes a pride for us romanians and we are always proud to say the first perfect 10 was made by a romanian.

Every once in a while, I come back to this video. Nadia’s level of perfection and gracefulness has yet to be achieved

I don't think we will ever see another gymnast of this caliber. She's light as a feather with every movement. I was seven when she achieved this. I remember watching her on the TV and wanting to be just like her.
  • She is not like other gymnasts it looks just like she is having fun out there

It's astounding that humans are able to do this. She trained hard, and achieved peak gracefulness.

Nadia=perfection. Her routines were flawless and graceful. People say that her routines were easy, but let them try and achieve 7 perfect 10's at 14.
  • The way Nadia runs and just bounces like a feather is her unique style and is part of what makes her the greatest ever.

She looks like she just having fun and not worried about competing
  • Her uneven bar routine was incredible! And that floor exercise? Outstanding, creative, and pristine. She truly might have been the best Olympian gymnast I've ever seen.
