    Perhaps there was a certain period of time during development where the finger-slayer blade was an actual weapon, and could actually be used to kill two fingers that could be found, but maybe not, this is just some speculation on my part.

    "odd invisible NPC's that are used for weird technical things" reminds me of that story about how the train in Fallout 3 was actually just an NPC wearing a train hat. I wonder if Elden Ring has humorous examples like that.
