This was cut down from a short stream where I wanted to do a small presentation of my thoughts on animating lipsync and how I personally approach lipsyncing for my animations. I hope I made it easy to follow what I'm doing and I also tried my best to explain myself really clearly. Keep in mind that this process doesn't work for everybody, and it may have some limitations for more complex animation styles, but this is what works for me and my own works. Lipsync is something that I'm extremely passionate about in animation, and I really hope that sharing my thoughts on this topic will help others understand how to approach lipsync in their own works.
The animation software featured in this video are MACROMEDIA FLASH 8 and TVPAINT 11.5 PRO

  • People overestimate how little frames you really need for talking at a moderate pace, it's a pleasant surprise to discover in practice. Great in depth tutorial btw!

For someone working on more animated works it is nice that you are cutting out these parts of streams for people to learn. You are doing a civil service, keep it up second

As a guy who's been working semiprofessionally in the industry for years, I'm baffled how I've never heard of MOUTHFEELS. I just did it instinctively, funny enough also inspired by Egoraptors animating style. Watching this was like looking in a mirror, that felt surreal. It was a really fun tutorial btw.

Just in case someone is reading the comments before watching the video, this is one of the most straight foward and best lip sync videos i've ever seen.

  • This is a great vid! It's the perfect blend of tutorial and concept review. It's really cool hearing you talk about your strategy and development of your completed animations. Would love to see another vid like this going over more character acting with body mechanics. Great stuff!
