The Fractal Design Terra is a scary-good ITX chassis. Pick one up here: amzn.to/49GzmE7

The Ayaneo Retro Mini 2 is one of the most adorable PC's I've ever had in my studio. It's small, quiet, and if you grew up in the 80s, know exactly where its design inspiration comes from. But is there any substance behind the pretty face?

But first... What am I drinking???

WELCOME BACK TO MIXOLOGY MARCH!
Today's drink is the Hot Toddy... specifically Jeffrey Morgenthaler's recipe for it.

8oz Apple Cider (no hotter than 160F/71C)
2oz 100 Proof Rye Whiskey
1 'dallop' of butter
1 Cinnamon stick
1 wedge slice zest SWATH of Orange

Will we EVER witness the CLASH of White-Hair-Jeff and Red-Shirt-Jeff?
  • @5h4ck
Wholeheartedly approve of the dollop of butter! If it's good enough for hot buttered rum, it's good enough for a hot toddy.
  • 17:49 I fuckin' lived for that Alpine Instant Cider when I was a tween. Its better than any other instant cider out there and better than more than a few bottled ciders. Imagine my shock when I rented warehouse space just a few blocks from their HQ. Side note: they used to (and I think they still) make a hard-to-find instant eggnog that is pretty solid if you're into that kind of thing.

So all the TDP and Turbo settings are hidden in a proprietary windoze app rather than unlocked in the BIOS... What happens when you run linux ?
  • @facetofaceid
On my MSI laptop when I go in the "Advanced" settings section of the BIOS and I press at the same time LALT RCTRL RSHIFT F2, I get access to many settings related also to overclocking. I would try this combination on the Retro Mini 2, it could solve your issues with the persistance of the TDP settings. Congratulations for this amazing channel!

@CraftComputing Can't wait to see your update on the dual epic servers!
  • @bigjnsa
Great review as always. I've been looking for something low power to act as a home server in a tiny house. I think this will fill both the "Smart TV" aspect with Plex, etc... and run off solar. Thanks!
  • @bluesquadron593
I am thinking, this is also a very capable and cute home lab pc.

In my head I'm hearing "The world looks mighty good to me, cuz NES is all I see ... whatever it is I think I see, becomes a NES to me."
  • @johnpaulsen1849
Hey Jeff, have you thought about looking at the Azrock rack or super micro 1U AM5 or Intel 1700 socket servers? Curious if a cluster of these could replace some of smaller clusters aging VMware platforms
  • @TheRogueBro
I just can't get behind the price of these super SFF pc's. The cheapest (non-barebone) variant will be $900 (CAD) after the sale.
  • @ewasteredux
Too bad they didn't make the display tiltable...
  • @DoomSlinger
Now I know why my HP Z2 Mini with Quadro P1000 outperforms my AM02 - I had the TDP set to 28w. LOL.
  • @TheGKLM
I'd love if they made a famicom version to match an 8bitdo keyboard I got.
  • @jddes
8:27 Ahh, I love it when my CPU gets hotter than the beginning of the universe.
  • @satamototo
This PC is a good option for a 249 USD retail price for the finished version.
