0:52 Lofi panda is what I reach for when I want just ā€œa soundā€ and am consciously working to not grab my go to. Like ā€œPiano, okay. Letā€™s open Aliciaā€™s K- no WAIT!ā€ Then I try to use something from a plugin I - like you - have but havenā€™t explored. Now, I donā€™t START with an obscure pack. I reach for it when I want something obscure in a beat Iā€™m making.

At 1:22 you played a chord and it's the exact same as the opening chord from "Quiet and Falling" from the Celeste OST. The same key, same voicing, even similar sound. It caught me so off guard! It is indeed SUCH a beautiful chord tho!

Bro i'm begging you to make some of these samples into ambient beats inspired by Aphex twin because you're right on the brink of it I can just hear it.
  • @safaripedals
Thanks for including Safari pedals in the mix! This video slays so hard. Makes me want to run to the studio and make some beats ;)

16:16 arturia is what I reach for IMMEDIATELY if I need 80ā€™s sounds. Not only do they have a ton of convincing vintage emulations like this all throughout their main bundle, they also have the emulated stock presets plus some others that was used legendarily by some folks. So when Iā€™m on YouTube and they are breaking down what say, Prince did or Michael Jackson or Genesis, I can play along. It doesnā€™t just SOUND like it, it LOOKS like it with a gui that lets you follow the music documentary. Pretty fire. And their onboard marketplace is hella fire too. You can buy presets from other random users.

I think learning and understanding a DAW can save you a lot of money. Some plugins makes it too easy, lazy and also cause you to miss out on a lot of extensive music knowledge.

14:01 okay, I know a kid who has a PhD (Dr. Harris) in like Germanic opera or something. Also sound and kind of look like John legend when he wants to. Wanted to work with him and he ghosted me. He dropped an album and one of the songs is a negro spiritual called Good News. So I took that and did a poor manā€™s granular synth using a tuning plugin and Serato Sample 1.5. In Serato, I grabbed random snippets of 1-3 wave cycles - really short. Threw it in keyboard mode and hit C3 on my midi keyboard. Resembled that, opened melodyne and made sure it was dead on C3. Each time, it sounded like a different instrument but it was just his educated fancy book lurnin operatic voice. šŸ¤£ the organs, the strings, the plucks - all him. Then I chopped him up saying ā€œAiiinā€™t uh that GOOD NEWWWWWSā€ all Jim Crow/Fisk Jubilee Singers sounding. Then I made a trap beat out of Dr. Harris. Called it ā€œHarris Newsā€. Itā€™s on my SoundCloud under the same name I have here. Not gonna spam yā€™all. But THIS??!? This plugin HERE? It seems to sample different segments of different granularities and in different ways in real time to create pad-like ambianceā€™s in lieu of just verb impulses. I also have this in a bundle, I think. When I recover my drive I lost, Iā€™m finna try it

Infinity EQ is my go-to EQ. Functionality-wise Fabfilter is still better but for just EQing out a certain frequency infeq is just the best EQ I've ever had
  • @happniin5287
Hahaha that cheeky "I'm gonna add the delay too" got me
  • I have two approaches to plugins. A) minimalist: to force myself to improve on engineering fundamentals. B) fuck it: chances are this one can do the shit Iā€™ve been trying to figure out between several basic plugs.
  • Umm.... Ed!!!! You are not gonna just speed past that vocal chain bruh! Those vocals were fire!!!! We need the chain sir šŸ˜Œ lol ...... thanks for great content as always.
