Brad Owen TRAPS Mariano With QUADS!

Published 2024-04-05
There aren’t many better feelings in life than hitting quads at the poker table! When OG poker vlogger Brad Owen rivers quads against Mariano and EZ, he takes a crazy line in the hopes that his opponents will bluff into him. But will it work?

When the board is very wet & dynamic you should often bet larger with your value hands. The nuts will change by the turn or river if any straight or flush completing cards arrive which could result in you possibly having the 2nd best hand. Using larger bet sizes allows you to get more money into the pot whilst you still have an equity advantage.

Brad Owen is a WPT ambassador and co-owner of The Lodge Card Club in Texas, he is a very successful YouTube poker vlogger with over 715,000 subscribers. His YouTube channel has had over 172,000,000 views. Primarily a cash game player, Brad has started playing more poker tournaments since the start of 2022. His lifetime total live tournament winnings are over $790,000. His biggest cash for $152,266 came in December 2023 where he finished 7th in the $50,000 WPT Alpha8, during the WPT World Championship at the Wynn, Las Vegas

Mariano is an American professional poker player born in Argentina.. He regularly features on the Hustler Casino Live stream but has started to make more of an appearance on The Lodge Card Club stream. Since 2021 he has won over $850,000 from live streamed cash games, he is yet to make a name for himself on the poker tournament circuit as he primarily focuses on cash games.

EZ is a regular on the stream and is an amateur poker player from America. He plays a variety of stakes from $5/$10 to $200/$400.

In early 2022, poker professionals Doug Polk, Brad Owen, and Andrew Neeme joined forces to acquire a controlling stake in The Lodge Poker Club & Card Room, which happens to be the largest poker establishment in Austin, Texas. 🔍 Pre-Flop Action:
The action folds to Mariano Poker on the button who raises to $600 with AQo. Brad Owen looks down at pocket eights in the big blind and calls, EZ in the straddle opts to call with the Doyle Brunson special, T2o, as they head to the flop three-way.

💸 Flop - Ks 8s 3h:

Brad flops a beautiful middle set with his snowmen and checks. EZ follows suit with a check to the aggressor. Mariano does not take the bait with his ace-high and he wisely checks behind.

💣 Turn - Th:
The T of hearts on the turn introduces two flush draws on the board. Brad now takes the initiative by leading for $1,200. EZ, having paired his ten, decides to make the call. Mariano, who has picked up a gutshot straight draw, also calls to see the river.

🌊 River - 8h:
The 8 of hearts on the river brings in the backdoor flush and upgrades Brad's set of eights to quads! He remains stoic like a true professional poker player and after some time he checks with four of a kind to EZ, who is also happy to check hoping to get to showdown cheaply. Now, Mariano has just ace-high after missing his gutshot straight draw. But what will he do? Brad must be praying for a bet, but will the fellow poker vlogger fall for Brad’s trap, or will he check it back? Watch this poker video to find out!

Turns out Mariano played it perfectly. He sent out a medium-sized bet to see if it was a check-raise scenario and got his answer. Going all in after the $20K would be something Perrson would do. LOL.

Bet $1500 and either get paid off or re-raise a Flush Bluffer . With 2 in the hand he should get 1 caller or a bluffer

When there's 2 people behind me and i have the nuts i either check or bet in a way that makes me look a little weak to motivate people to bluff me But i prefer the check because the bet can be also seen as value betting and make people fold ... it's a spot where in the end you have to rely on the people speaking behind you, sometimes they both check and you don't look really smart Check seems like the best option because weak hands won't call a bet on that board and fullhouse will most likely go all-in if we check, it really depends on them imo, but it's not a place to bet large at all against bluffers sometimes betting is the thing to do if they think that a checkraise work

9:59 Brad going all-in would be a terrible idea. Just about anything worse than a full house likely folds. If Mariano does have a full house, then he's going to three-bet anyways and then Owen can go all-in. The problem there though is that there are only three full house combinations possible... and Mariano having KK or 10s is extremely unlikely given how the hand has played out. The other main problem for Owen is that his reputation is rather nitty. He'll be aggressive with good hands, but his range is considerably limited... and Mariano knows this. Owen's best option in this situation would be a much smaller check raise. Any king, 10, or other pair still calls. Any flush still calls or possibly three bets. Most importantly, if Mariano thinks that Owen is weak, then it could induce a three bet bluff.

Your commentary is like the long version of the voice in my head, while I play.

I don’t mean to disagree with the Johnathen, but I think just over 2X pot on the river would get the same job done that Four x would without risking 22,000 and chips.

Not folding the 10 on the turn is one of my leaks.. thx for that tip .. multi way pots

It’s not Mariano like Mary, it’s Mariano like marginal, in regards to his name pronunciation. Nice vid as always

Just go with the min-raise when you have the nuts. Player is going to likely call for value, and if they have a strong hand, they're going to re-raise the min-raise, anyway.

U ever see vids like this where ppl talk too much?
  • Mariano is a very good player, rarely see him make any mistakes.
  • @JefePlaysDrums
Brad bets big, Mariano...folds. so checking got the extra bet. Seems to be one of the better options. Possibly the small bet to try and get raised
  • @dillonhitt
Would it be bad to bet around pot or over on the river if you’re Brad? It doesn’t induce any bluffs but if ur opponent has full house or nut flush then they still probably raise, and maybe you get some sort of top pair hero call or bluff catcher out of Mariano
