Hail and rainfall tear through Calgary amid severe thunderstorm warnings for parts of southern Alberta. Severe thunderstorm warnings remained in effect for some regions in Alberta after intense hail and rainfall tore through Calgary and other parts of the province Monday evening.
Environment Canada says meteorologists have been tracking a "very dangerous thunderstorm" capable of producing baseball-sized hail, strong wind gusts and heavy rain. As of shortly after 9 p.m., the agency said the thunderstorm was located in Cheadle and Strathmore, Alta., and was heading to the east at 50 km/h.

Why not report the news event WITHOUT the B S exaggeration ? We get enough B S from our federal government media .
-
Those are not 6” hailstones. Maybe the 1/2-1” hailstones fell to a depth of 6”, ( not sure- haven’t watched the entire video), but your title is worded incorrectly. You could have said - 6”’s of large hailstones fell at airport- but I actually clicked on the video to see 6” size hailstones as that would be a sight to see, but that hailstorm is not an anomaly.
-
Chaos in Canada? Oh please. That’s quite normal in my 72 years.
-
Ok, I’m neither liking or subscribing. The coverage was good, but I’m not going to encourage clickbait. The largest hailstone recorded was gold ball sized, not “6 inches”, and the Calgary airport, though damaged, was far from “destroyed”. Not having it.
-
"Destroy" the airport? Screw you. Like they haven't had hail in Alberta before. I'd be more worried about crops.
-
Calgary was warned before the storm hit.
-
How ridiculous, I live in SW Calgary, didn't see a single hailstone, what drama, what BS.......we have these kinds of summer storms every year.
-
I got to love your headline about so-called "destroying" the airport. I think this is what I call misinformation! It caused some damage to the older part of the airport.
-
That's hail, but not 6 inch hail.
-
That's definitely good sized hail but not 6 inch. Don't these people know how big 6 inches is ?
-
Must be a man that wrote the headline. They exaggerate about the size of fish and other things.
-
If it were 6" there would be dead people and a lot more damage
-
Why is local news not covering this?? Or ANY storms of ANY nature.....
-
Your picture greatly exaggerated...... I'm Canadian Quebecois I live through the ice storm so it takes alot to impress me...but I don't take pleasure in people's pain ...hope for the best outcome
-
No where near 6 inch hail buddy.
-
What percentage of people, in Calgary, can actually park in their garages...or are the garages just storage facilities?
-
Weather modification should be spoken about much more than it is
-
Get facts right, too much exaggeration, I love in Alberta, my son in Calgary. He is in South Calgary and only thunderstorm and heavy rain. However North Calgary got hit harder, the Airport was damaged some but NOT destroyed.
-
It wasn't 6" hail stones...If your going to report on stuff, be factual.
-
Not an uncommon occurrence in Calgary considering its proximity to the Rocky Mountains. We were at a horse show there in the 1980's and our new truck got totally dented.
