It lifted off from Vandenberg air force base, carrying the latest batch of satellites for Iridium Communications. The trail was widely seen throughout southern California and as far away as Phoenix, Arizona. SpaceX has made four launches so far and expects to make several more by mid-2018

We saw that in Arizona aswell. It was awesome. We saw a Chunk fall off but was unable to get a picture of it falling. This was an amazing site.

No rockets prior to spacex EVER displayed those kinds of things in the sky. Whats so different with this/these rockets, that you get these very visual effects in the sky?

Love the "little mind" thoughts of what this was. I remember the launched missles from the early 80s from vandenberg air force base. Almost every other month they looked like this because they would launch on purpose to get this effect.
