Is this similar to what THE STRID would look like if the water levels were low enough?

Another good and interesting video from you two, you can imagine that's what the Strid may look like with less water in it. Nothing wrong in trusting your gut feeling Em , better to be safe than sorry .

THank you both for bringing me "virtually" to a place that I will never get to see in person. I never knew that place existed in the UK. You may want to visit the river Coquet just below Rothbury, Northumberland (Thrum Mill footpath). I was taken there as a teen on a geography field trip ... and have visited more recently. It is similar to the Strid. (also very close to Cragside house ... the first house in the world to be lit by electric lights (If I recall correctly..or it might have been hydro-electicity specifically) and was the country home of a great Industrialist. Some of the table lamps didn't have switches, but you placed them in a dish of mercury to make the connections).

From above, the gorge looked completely uninteresting, but down there it's a whole new world. Those who are curious will find! Great video guys!

I love your commitment to 'Survivorman style' filming. Les would be proud.

I used to do this as a kid. We called it gorge walking. We'd hike up a hill to the source of a river and then follow it down all the way to the bottom. Good memories.

Imagine hearing the approach of a thunderstorm while being in this slot canyon. Yikes.

Emma is adorable and so inspiring. She faces her fears with you guidance. Itโ€™s beautiful to watch n gives me hope that I can adventure like this. I really want to visit this gorge but always been a bit nervous. Thankyou for sharing your adventures ๐Ÿ’š

Can I suggest that you take a walking stick next time? They are handy for checking the depth of dark water. This was a very enjoyable adventure. Thanks for taking us with you.

I love that you choose to narrate the feelings you have concerning safety as you're actually engaging in the task. This is a way better approach to actually teaching safety than just reciting "do's and don'ts" like people usually do. We explore places like this because we're interested in them and it's common to want to challenge yourself. The trick is to remain constantly aware of that drive to complete a challenge and the feelings that arise as you move through a dangerous environment. Like when Em described how she was concerned that descending that section might cause her anxiety to go up to the point where it would hinder her ability to get back out. That's *so practical and logical*, but it's the kind of thing that you can just miss if you're not keeping aware of your feelings as you go along.
  • Thanks for taking us on these adventures! Love you and Em when she comes along, the vid quality, the editing - all wonderful. I usually carry a collapsible wading staff for such adventures that can be easily stowed to free up hands, and brought out when depth test reqโ€™d. Any good fly fishing store will have these, or online Iโ€™m sure. Stay safe!
