A good tip for beginner drivers is to have a "point of no return" when approaching a light. If it turns yellow before that point, you know you can safely stop. If it turns yellow after you pass that point, you know you can't stop in time. It will help you avoid situations like this in the future. If you don't mind me asking, was the vehicle heavier than you're used to? (Either with a load in the back or just a heavier car) That could've also been a contributing factor for rolling into the intersection.
