What is your level in English? Take this level test to find out where you probably are on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). This quiz starts at A1 and finishes at C2.

If you often ask yourself "How good is my English?", "What is my English level?" or even "Do I have C1 or C2?", this video is for you!

Please note:
This is essentially an English grammar and vocabulary test. This cannot replace a proper exam that tests your reading, writing, listening and speaking. This quiz can only give you a general idea of your level.
It's also fairly common to have different levels for different skills. For example, someone might have a B1 speaking level and a C2 reading level.

Chapters:
0:00 Introduction and Explanation
1:39 A1 (Beginner)
8:21 A2 (Elementary)
14:46 B1 (Intermediate)
21:40 B2 (Upper intermediate)
28:05 C1 (Advanced)
35:07 C2 (Proficient)

I'm a 72 years old man from KL, Malaysia. I scored 10 points for each level from A1 to C2. Thank you for your interesting and excellent effort.

I have a degree in meteorology and a double-minor in Swedish language and Scandinavian literature. English is my first language. I scored 100 with a couple of minor disagreements between Australian and American phrasing. My biggest lesson was....I admire even more now people who are learning English. Well done. I bow to you.

I had basic English in school, however I learned a lot more and faster while practicing talking, reading, listening and learned that there is a lot more to this language, how it differs in various dialects to understand Scottish, Australian, Irish or Mid-West American people is one thing, the next challenge pose non native English speaking people, like Indians, other Asian or African people is another level where it becomes clear that languages are all about communication and not about standard settings! The same is of course with other languages like French, Spanish, Portugiese not to mention the large variety of dialects.

It's been a pleasure to take this British-English test after living for almost 30 years in Canada and using no "real English" at all. I made 6 mistakes while answering the questions which, I think, is quite an achievement.

Thank you Max, very interesting and well presented quiz. I am so often appalled by the grammar I see in the comments left on YouTube by people who are obviously native English speakers, so when I saw this quiz, I decided I had to try it for myself. Sixty out of sixty, I am happy to say but then I am rather particular about grammar and spelling as I majored in Business Communication at University and am also an English speaker so it was not too difficult at all. I must congratulate those people who's first language is not English, yet managed to score highly. Very commendable indeed.

I am 65 .Iranian . British University educated in engineering and glad to have manged C2 . Thanks .
  • Frankly speaking i found no difficulties concerning a1 a2 b1 b2 and c1, all my answers were right, but c2 was a challenge to me only one question was right, this means that i need to do more efforts especialy concerning idioms and phrasal verbs thanks a lot for your endeavours Max.
  • @julianewn2966

Even if I didn't have any opportunity to speak or write in English these last 20 years, I made only 5 mistakes in the whole test (2 in B2, 2 in C1 and 1 in C2). I found the test very interesting. Thank you !
  • @robinhood1488
No mistakes, and thank you for going to the trouble to prepare this video. Also, you have a lovely speaking voice and pleasant demeanour.
  • @soumik231
I attended C1 and C2 tests and had one and four errors respectively. Very good experience for me. It taught me that not only I need a grammar base but also a common sense to answer some of the questions. I answered some of them just by experience I have. Thanks for conducting this test
  • @gigizito9069
I casually found this test and tried to do it. I was surprised to make it all the way to the end, having most of the difficulty on C2. In total I made 18 mistakes and maybe it's not that bad for one who studied English at the middle school in Italy - you can imagine how it was taught - almost 50 years ago. Anyway It encourages me to begin to study seriously. It's never late, isn'it. Thank you 🌹
  • As a native English speaker, who is learning B1 German, this just popped up in my recommended videos. Its so funny , I can solve C2 levels in this without options most of the times but struggle so hard in the German ones even at A2 levels.
  • This is the first time I watch your channel . It is really useful . I enjoyed watching and listening to this test . It was enjoyable as well as gave me an indication of my English level . It became hard a little bit in level C 2 not grammatically but because of new vocabulary that I did not know . Hoping for more tests in the future . English with Max thank you so much for this amazing video !
  • @Ever-Smiling
I score almost full up to B1 level, B2 80% , C1 and C2 50%. These questions bring the brain to work a lot. Thank you❤❤❤
