Rútshellir Cave and Drangurinn - Iceland Walk [4K]

Published 2022-01-28
Exploring Rútshellir cave and onwards to Drangurinn, a rock with caves and passages to which additional buildings have been added throughout the centuries, some of which are still standing.

00:17 - The sign reads: Upwards of 200 man-made caves can be found on 90 farms in South Iceland, and 41 of them have been declared protected sites. They are virtually unknown elsewhere in the country. There are many stories about Rútshellir, which lies near a well-traveled road. The main cave is straight and arched and at least 20 meters long. It was used to store hay. The small cave, Stúkan, perpendicular to the main cave, is about 3 metres longer. It was probably a smithy.

As a geography student i bought a book called 'iceland: tectonics, volcanics and glacial features'. It basically shows the geological processes on Iceland, its very interesting! Especially combining it with these videos, in which i can still kinda be on Iceland to see the amazing landscape! Thanks for the great quality videos, i hope to travel to Iceland soon to see the landscape myself!

Beautiful footage as always! I have to say though I definitely prefer your videos without any music because it makes it seem more serene and like I’m there.
  • Magnífico paisaje, maravillosa vegetación que bonito está todo las montañas se lucen y la ruta esta increíble cómo siempre digo nos ofreces lo mejor a los que amamos Islandia

And these shots really give you an idea what it was like back in the day…not that I could ever imagine how cold it must have been!

I love the music. It's very soothing 😌 but I'm a big fan of the sound of your footsteps 👣 😀

Amazing footage guys. The clarity really does the landscape and sky justice. Your videos are excellent for putting together a touring schedule that’s more ‘off the beaten path’. I’ll certainly be using them as a basis for my next visit. As always, great work and please keep them coming. Subscriber numbers are rising 👍🏼

    Looks lovely and beautiful.
  • Awesome, as usual. I agree with those who say that they like a little background music. Nice touch.

Again, a nice walk in the past of Iceland :) Drangurinn was also a location in the film (when the raven flies, by Hrafn Gunnlaugsson 1984). Good to know that a visit is allowed, I though it was privat. I'll make a longer stop here next time :)
  • Really beautiful. I don't know how anyone survived in those shelters though.
  • Once again I realise that three years ago I was travelling far too fast on Route 1. I simply drove past many beautiful places. My list for my next visit is getting longer and longer.

I can’t help imagine with my dog there 🐶
