I Bought A Rotten Boat! | 2000 Pursuit 3400 Fisherman with TWIN Volvo DIESEL Engines

This is the riskiest AND MOST EXPENSIVE purchase I have ever! After selling the Sea Ray and searching for months for an old sport fish style boat (Bertram, Hatteras, Post, Viking, Tiara, Cabo, Jersey etc) this Pursuit popped back up on the market for 100K less than its previous listed price... Watch the video to find out why! This could be the best or worst decision I've ever made...

Welcome to Boat Restoration by Ben! This is a channel based around all things boat and yacht restoration related. I work full time in the marine industry and when I'm not at work, I'm currently restoring my one of a kind 1992 Sea Ray 380 Sun Sport. This is my 12th boat project! From $100 boats to 60 year old relics, I started small and worked my way up. Despite my best judgement, I buy boats that need A LOT of work and fix them up myself. I grew up boating at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, went to school to become an engineer, worked at John Deere for 5 years, and then decided to give it all up to pursue my dream to work in the recreational boat industry. Now having since moved to the Chesapeake Bay area, my mission is to share with the world my love and passion for mechanics and wrenching through my marine projects all while teaching you how to enjoy boats on a budget. I hope you Like these videos and please don't forget to Subscribe! Cheers, Ben.

Beautiful boat. A nice combination of size, fishability and accommodations. Quite a collection of fishing gear, too. Congratulations!

  • Just found your channel, can’t wait to see how this Pursuit turns out. I just bought my first boat a few months ago, a Jones Brothers Bateau. Got it all fixed up and already got the itch to get another one!

Curious, why did you put it in the water before doing all that work?

  • Very nice boat. Pursuit (and Tiara) were founded by Leon Slikkers, and his boats were noted for their perfect tooling. Good quality build, although an older Pursuit like yours still used wood-covered stringers which were far from ideal. Balsa coring was great unless the caulking around through-hulls, cleats and other areas where the core was penetrated was not done right. Delamination can become a very expensive catastrophe -- a friend had to strip the entire gel coat of his 47-foot trawler yacht and spend untold amounts of money having the core removed and the whole thing redone. Looking forward to future videos detailing the complete restoration.
  • Super cool boat my man!! Motivation is the key, im sure you know that? Shes gonna beat you down, wear you out, break your heart, but stick with her and she'll love you back eventually!!
