The Georgian capital Tbilisi is bracing for more mass protests. Demonstrators spent another night in front of parliament to voice their opposition to a draft law they say threatens press and civil liberties. In the eyes of the demonstrators, it also jeopardizes their country's EU prospects. They fear the new law could pave the way for an authoritarian turn in the country, which has been a candidate for EU membership for several months. The so-called "foreign influence" bill will be voted on Tuesday.

Why are not you showing police brutality? Or didn’t say that parliament ended the committee in 67 seconds? Why don’t you say that people are demanding sanctions on authoritarian leader Ivanishvili?

5 people raised their hand in a country of millions. So now tell me that is a democracy...

Actual foreign agents trying to pass a law about foreign agents. Sure let’s do that but that law should include transparency for all those people who support this ruzzian bill.

The russian bots are here in droves. Also, people who say other countrys have this kind of bill: Only Russia has this vague kind of bill and the georgian politician copied it. It can be abused by those in power, while other countrys just need know the who and what. If you still question the severity, ask yourself this: Can any "NGO" not backed by Russia actually work in Russia?

They have elections coming up in 5 months - so how come the ruling party is behaving so against the public interest rather than appeasing them in this period?? 🤔

  • Don't fear the government. Your strength is the door to freedom and dignity. The guy who said it's not the US or West's problem has no idea what freedom means.

I really hope Georgia's civil society doesn't let this go. They just have to look at Belarus to understand what expects them if they do.

It is sad for me as a Ukrainian to see Sakartvelo moving away from the EU. I hope Georgians will be able to elect a pro-European government in the next election and change this law!
  • Why these pictures of so few people ? When I was there last week there were several hundred thousand protesters, they have been every night for weeks and continue to come out in massive, historic numbers. These images drastically downplay the immensity of the dissent.
