I actually bought my mom one of those umbrella hats, way before I ever saw this video. She used it mainly to protect herself from the sun, and it worked really well for that because the top is reflective (that's why the pattern is on the underside). I don't know if she ever used it in the rain, but she gets sunburnt easily, so sun protection was the top priority for her.
