Thanks! I was able to identify my father-in-law's Homelite as model 10537, built as the 58th on line 2 on the 165th day of 1980. By the way, you have a great speaking voice, could be on radio with a voice like that!

Thanks for the information Leon. Being a Canadian I find this interesting. I am a lawn mower guy. Tecumeh engine serial #'s are similarily difficult.

Thanks for the video. You explained it very good. I was a member I believe years ago. I am not tech savy and didn't understand how to participate in House of Homelite. I will visit again. Thank you.

Did Homelite change the color of their saws from blue to red at a particular time or did they make both colors concurrently? I have a blue Super XL Automatic built on May 7, 1974 and a red one built on November 18, 1974. Both my XL12s from the early 60s are blue. I enjoyed your videos. They helped a lot in rebuilding these 4 saws.
  • I finely got on it joined it man that's a lot of records that Joyce Willson has many years lol

Canadian Homelite chainsaws have a different setup for their Terry Industries saws. For instance serial number 44442264 which is a legitimate serial number for a Homelite XL means that this saw was built In 1974 ( First digit) 44 week and 4th day ( next 3 digits) which puts one to November 1 1974. ( maybe even October 31, 1974 of that year) 2264 ( the last 4 digits) was the number of units that were built. And the serial number I mentioned is for a Homelite XL.

Before I can get to the serial number I need to remove the thick coat of paint someone slapped over the saw and the ID plate. I would like to remove the paint without damaging the paint on the plate beneath it. This is an older Homelite with the larger metal plate. What would you guys that restore saws try 1st? Thanks

It's like a truck forum sometimes... What the biggest tires I can fit with a lift... Lol
  • I’m one of those offenders who revived an old thread. In my defense, it was a 7 digit serial number and i still can’t access those old records.
