Van Gogh's 'Almond Blossom' is one of my favorite pieces of art. It was painted in Southern France in the spring of 1890, in response to a letter from Vincent's brother Theo announcing the birth of a son. The brothers were close, and the child was named after Vincent. The painting represents a surge of happiness and energy in the generally depressed life of Van Gogh, who killed himself later that year.

The jubilant awakening that is spring was the main idea behind this piece. It starts from a place of relative stasis, and slowly snowballs energy before tumbling to a messy and abrupt conclusion.

The video is comprised of shots I took over the last few weeks. Think of it as my first (and probably last) vlog haha

“Imagination. So powerful. Your children are full of it. Always having their minds drift off to into the wondrous and magical expanse of their creativity. Often visualising brilliant and terrible things. Impossible things. It’s a dangerous thing, imagination. But… an amazing thing.”

Mesmerizing... Thad the best way I can describe this. I swear Ross, if I ever get the privilege of directing a feature film one day, you will be the one who scores it. Amazing work as always.

I visited Van Gogh's museum in Amsterdam during my honeymoon. I saw the almond blossom painting and felt it was peculiar and stood out from all his other paintings. It wasn't until I listened to the electronic guide and realized where the bliss and tranquility came from, at that point I was moved to tears. He suffered greatly but only through his love for his family, his brother, was he able to find such momentary peace. Thank you for the music~ it gave me goosebumps and brought me back to the museum!
  • I like how still everything was in the beginning, then boom! Movement
  • You should release a collection of your music videos on blu-ray. I would buy it.

This song nearly gave me a panic attack. It sounds ridiculous, and I’d think the same thing if I heard it. But for whatever reason, this song pulls at my heart. Even when typing this I can feel my past mistakes while listening, and it hurts. But when I listen to this it’s all almost beautiful. I don’t condone what I’ve done and I never will, but even after all those mistakes I’m still me. No matter what, I will always be me. Even if I change, smile, break, yell, no matter what I’ll be the same. And so will everything else. I can always count on tomorrow, even if I panic and break. I feel like I’m trying to explain something impossible to explain, but no matter how it’s described I am privileged to feel something like this. Not just about myself but something of beauty, something of this reality that hurts me and makes me reflect. This is something I’ll never forget, and I live for this feeling of beauty. Even while the world is stuck in illusion and is burning, when I am alone and I watch the sunset I know the truth. I know who I am.
