This is the most claustrophobic cave diving story I have ever told. This is a story of cave diving gone wrong.

Really does feel like the only useful skill you obtain from cave diving is the ability to save other cave divers.

I'm with the "No thank you. I'll just wait for ya'll outside the cave."

Great video as always the added photos and maps really add to the content, unfortunately the constant swirling animation distorts these maps and makes photos difficult to focus on thus breaking the immersion.

the vast majority of these tragedies can be described with a single word: recklessness

Great video as always, but please don't overuse the wavy effect so much. Does my head in.

I remember looking at the final dive video of Yuri Lipski, a diver who went way too deep and perished while recording. For those who don't know, he hit the seabed at a depth that is basically death. The most fascinating thing to me about the video was: the seabed looked like any bed of sand and rock you'll see on a beach. Ever since then, I always ask, "why do people take this risk?". There's no Atlantis when you reach the end of a treacherous cave, there's no trove of treasure. For the most part, there's brown walls and sand, and it's awful to think that this diver died because he wanted to go somewhere very dangerous to see the same brown walls and sand.
  • Imagine going into a cave that you know for a fact has nothing of value in it? No gold, no artifacts, just rocks and blackness. And a high probability of death.

Thanks for the content. I wouldn’t continue that 3D animation though. Not a fan. Maybe try to use a moving arrow on the maps to show the location to remain dynamic without the nausea inducing spin.

The visual effects gave me dizziness

I trained for and am certified for deep (200+FSW) using mixed breathing gases. My goal, long since past, was to dive on and penetrate the wreck of the Andrea Doria. Also a overhead environment as a cave but with considerably different hazards, mostly due to the long exit times. Deco requirements are similar. Circumstances prevented my reaching that goal but several other challenging dives were accomplished. It seems to me that the knowledge that other divers have died in a particular cave or wreck, sets up some sort of mental contest to see if you can survive what has resulted in the death of others. For those who might like to try, know this: It is NOT entertaining, it is NOT recreational in any way and it is NOT "fun". If you do not prepare as you would a military mission, with all the proper equipment, all the support team and the best the advance planning, you will die. No question. Now if you do all these things and do them well, you might make it or you might die anyway, if some little seemingly insignificant bit goes wrong. Good luck.

Thank you for the story. PS Please don't do the swirling graphics/photos (what's the goal here?). They add nothing to the drama and are if anything annoying af.

i have become obssessed with watching these tragedies in caves...it calms me down...is there something wrong with me?
  • @bassboomboing
I love your videos and commentary, but the swirling graphics make me feel motion sick. Honestly, i get enough anxiety and disorientation already.

Why would a guy not only impaired from a recent accident but a guy this big, even without his bulky equiptment, dive this tight cave. Its beyond insane n reckless, its stupid. Rip John 🙏
  • @ceeshnia
I am always amazed by the lack of animals in these caves, especially ones from the ocean.
  • @Jimmy94411
My sister’s husband tried to bully her into entering a cave with him while they were diving. Neither is a cave diver. He went in and she refused. She’s single now and no longer bullied!
  • @acatnamedPATCHES
Hey love your content but the zooming is giving me motion sickness and a killer headache.
  • @GrievousAngelo
At least I know I’m not going to die in an underwater cave.

please stop with the weird 3d effect on victims faces, nobody wants to see them through a fun house mirror
