I'm VERY excited to see what the future of Assetto Corsa holds! But I'm a little nervous it'll take quite some time to get there...

AC Evo doesnt need Open World maps, they need good Mod implementation, focus on physics, gameplay, Career mode and stuff, and let the community port the GTA5 map into the game if they want
  • One thing of note. None of these screenshots have raytracing or even SSR on the cars. Theres a serious attention to detail but not an overemphasis on graphical tech (also low requirements). Arguably what you want out of a sim like this. Raytraced reflectios would be nice in future though if this game is as long term as the OG, but not important.

From the interview I read, it seems like the devs are less happy about people ripping cars from say Forza and stuffing them into the game, but they also wanna support mods more, because they 100% understand how important that community is.
  • Union island the actual island from the Assetto Corsa Mod got completely destroyed by Hurricane Beryl last monday. I am from that country please look into it and share 🙏

All I really want from this new game is better ui, better multiplayer and better crash physics I think that will improve the game by alot.

7:56 As a track creator I can almost guarantee you that we won't be able to use our old mods without a lot of conversion work, basically porting the models and other stuff (CSP stuff, etc) to a new engine. Assetto is pretty dated and scuffed. We also rely on CSP so much nowadays that you'd have to change up a lot of things to make it work in any other engine, assuming that the new engine even provides most of the csp functionality. Just to name a few random examples: Ambient Occlusion (which funnily enough is not present in any AC Evo screenshots), lighting of any kind, reflections, water shaders, shaders in general like TV screens, moving objects (sometimes), audio like ambient sound, a lot of optimization which we'd have to do from scratch like occlusion, treeFX since most of us switched to only relying on CSP trees, grassFX which we use for vegetation, etc... All of those things would need to get ported over or done from scratch for each modern mod. The same goes for modern car mods. Many mods nowadays rely on the extended physics in CSP and a lot of other features for functionality. I'm pretty sure we'll be able to port over most things, assuming modding is a thing, but it will take effort and time...

AC is annoying to mod because SLA suspension system (most common road cars) works differently than real life. Same thing with raised/drop knuckles, and even height that would affect geometry of SLA in real life but isn’t identical in AC. Then there are problems where original cars don’t have an adjustable proportioning valve for brake bias in AC which also gets annoying. Caster angle is non-adjustable after modding. Ackerman angle similar situation IRL you can get a customizable steering arm on the knuckle. Lacks non-linear spring rate adjustment, and even slow to fast damper actuation point. The cars drive ok in AC but especially the camber angles in-game become unrealistic and biassed to the outside tire grip to compensate for lack of true SLA geometry, and caster adjustments which often feels and looks weird.

Pantsman sure does loves his "Garages"
  • * Driveclub had the orange peel, the border between that and the gloss, morning dew, moisture buildup over time on a moist day, and streaks in the foggy condensation on the paint.

Assetto corsa in a way has always been the garry's mod of the racing community, thus its prolonged success. As long as they don't try to change that drastically, itll be good

When it comes to physics and accurate vehicle behavior, I trust the actual developers to get that stuff correct, far more than pretty much any mod. Don't get me wrong, love mods and the work modders do, and I have a bunch too, but it's no secret the accuracy of some of the vehicles is only as good as the detail put in, and many are lacking. So while yea I wouldn't mind modding support for AC2, I also want alot of the cars to be from the devs themselves, so that we won't necessarily need mods for them. :goodvibes:

When it comes to these hardcore simulators, they shouldn't prioritize ground-breaking visuals 'cause these will run in triple monitor/VR setups where FPS is most important
  • @idknils2920
I think the garage is likely a Showroom like there is in the current AC
  • Why studios dont do games we all want? Call it "Just Cruisin" give us long autobahns, cool cars let us cruise and f. off lol, modders can do that ... Hopefully, TDUSC will cook ...

Ain't no chance in hell it's releasing this year.

There was a garage view in the first game, it was just hard to find in the bad UI. You could view in a hanger, out door or whatever. It’s just a view mode for each car
  • @redcobra1246
I really hope they go full simulation and not arcade. We already have forza horizon. We need a proper simulator. All simulators right now have some sort of issue. We need one to take the sim racing crown
  • @Synclon
Hell yeah.. I recently got my Full Sim Setup And Work hard for it, I can't wait to get my hands oh this game
  • @Suspect-driver
10:21 IMO NFS shift 2 unleashed camera movement perfectly tackles the issue, but no developers even slightly mad studio themselves don’t do it anymore😢
