Andrew is in Portugal where he gets an inside look at Ramirez Cannery, a 160-year-operation dating back to the origins of the region's canning industry. While exploring the factory, Andrew gets schooled in skinning and boning mackerel from skilled workers who have been slicing and dicing for 30-plus years! Then, canned fish is put to the test at Can the Can, a restaurant that turns the inexpensive fish into gourmet fare. Here Andrew indulges in a lemon and sardine dish that he describes as "perfect."

I absolutely love canned fish. My favorite are in olive oil and my favorite brands are, King Oscar, Nuri, Bela, and Ortiz. I usually eat them straight from the can with Tabasco Habanero hot sauce. 😍😋😋😋😋

Portuguese sardines are without a doubt the best canned sardines in the world! If you have never tried them, you are missing out on how good sardines can be. This video was great, thank you!

When I went to Austria and Switzerland camping and they are both land locked countries. One of the most common and popular foods were tinned sardines and other tinned seafoods.

  • The price of tinned seafood has risen to unbelievable levels in June 2024, something that wouldn’t have crossed my mind back when this was shot and canned octopus was under a buck and made some go yuck.

Canned Fish etc... can be excellent but you have to keep it simple.
  • Love the vid! I've never tried filleting a mackerel but I will offer that sometimes a dull knife is the best tool for the job.
