“My reaction to Governor Walz is I’m ecstatic. I have had the joy of working closely with Governor Walz now for almost 19 months as the governor. He is not just my colleague; he’s my friend, and he’s a good man. This is a person who also, from the age of 17, chose to raise his hand to serve. And I’m proud. I joined at 17 as well. But my first military experience and exposure was forced because I went to military school when I was 13. This is a man who, at 17, voluntarily raised his hand to serve. And when we’re talking about service, we’re talking about spectacular service. He finished as a sergeant major. And to be clear, for those who have been in the military know, you don’t get sergeant major just because you kept on getting promoted. That we got. Yeah, that’s right. We got one. Amen. If you need any understanding about why a unit runs, look at its senior NCOs. All right. Let’s be clear. And he has taken that posture throughout his entire life, whether it was serving in the military, whether it was coaching, whether it was serving in Congress, or whether it was raising his hand to serve as governor of Minnesota. He has served, and I’m really proud that my friend is now going to have an opportunity to serve in this capacity as well.

There’s another thing about the governor that I really appreciate. He’s also able to get rid of this myth that somehow we have to choose. You know, when it’s like, okay, do we want to have a society that believes in having economic business growth, or do you want to have a society that can address child poverty? And he’s doing what we’re doing in the state of Maryland, saying we’re not choosing. We are going to create an environment where you can have economic growth, where you can have business development, where you can have thriving entrepreneurial cultures, and we are going to end this scourge of child poverty because no civilized society allows its children to grow up in poverty. And so I’m excited for him. I’m proud of him, my friend. And I’m looking forward to the next 90 days as the country continues to know just what a good man Tim Walz is as well.”
