Lyrics:

Saturday night and the moon is out
I wanna head on over to the Twist and Shout
Find a two-step partner and a Cajun beat
When it lifts me up I'm gonna find my feet
Out in the middle of a big dance floor
When I hear that fiddle wanna beg for more
Gonna dance to a band from a-Lou'sian' tonight

Well I never have wandered down to New Orleans
Never have drifted down a bayou stream
But I heard that music on the radio
And I swore some day I was gonna go
Down Highway 10 past Lafayette
To Baton Rouge and I won't forget
To send you a card with my regrets
'Cause I'm never gonna come back home

Saturday night and the moon is out
I wanna head on over to the Twist and Shout
Find a two-step partner and a Cajun beat
When it lifts me up I'm gonna find my feet
Out in the middle of a big dance floor
When I hear that fiddle wanna beg for more
Gonna dance to a band from a-Lou'sian' tonight

They got a alligator stew and a crawfish pie
A golf storm blowin' into town tonight
Livin on the delta's quite a show
They got hurricane parties every time it blows
And here up north it's a cold cold rain
And there ain't no cure for my blues today
Except when the paper says: Beausoleil is coming into town
Baby let's go down

Saturday night and the moon is out
I wanna head on over to the Twist and Shout
Find a two-step partner and a Cajun beat
When it lifts me up I'm gonna find my feet
Out in the middle of a big dance floor
When I hear that fiddle wanna beg for more
Gonna dance to a band from a-Lou'sian' tonight

Bring your mama, bring your papa, bring your sister too
They got lots of music and lots of room
When they play you a waltz from 1910
You gonna feel a little bit young again
Well you learned to dance with your rock'n'roll
You learned to swing with a do-si-do
But you learn to love at the fais-so-do
When you hear a little Jolie Blon

Saturday night and the moon is out
I wanna head on over to the Twist and Shout
Find a two-step partner and a Cajun beat
When it lifts me up I'm gonna find my feet
Out in the middle of a big dance floor
When I hear that fiddle wanna beg for more
Gonna dance to a band from a-Lou'sian' tonight

You will be dancing like this in heaven. I think of all that Jesus did for us...as I listen to this. He did this not only for our life...but He did it for our joy to be full. Yes...life has a lot of heartache...and hurt at times, but when God pulls you out...He wants you to dance for joy !!! Yes !

I'm from Texas ... she is from New Jersey. This confirms what I have long believed ... Cajun Music is Contagious ! ! !
  • It says something when she can roll it all out and you can still understand every word she sings....she was indeed underrated.

Being from Lafayette, I’ve also been so proud to hear this song with BeauSoleil playing authentic Cajun music! Ayyyyeeeeee!!!

She's not Cajun, she's not even Southern, but, MAN, can she ever write Cajun music, and sing it, Southern style!

I always thought Mary was FIIIINE! She STILL looks incredible! One very talented young lady!
  • This is one of my favorite. She not only does a wonderful job of singing; she is enjoying the music with her actions and her smile.

This beautiful woman has charisma that just doesn’t stop. She’s a true force of nature, totally electrically alive.
  • Being bred and raised in Louisiana, this is one song that captures the essence of that state culture. It happens in backyards and bayous all through the state and boy do i miss it. Stuck elsewhere atm, but plan to go back and retire.
  • My husband has passed now. But he used to love to hear her music and signing. ❤️
  • Im a born and raised Texan but I married a Louisiana boy so I've come to love this kinda music.
  • I am from La. and this is great stuff. Carpenter is a great talent and her alto voice is a dream. The nineties were a great time for country music. Today we are in the desert.

Washboard. Spoons. Accordian. Steel guitar. They all blend together so perfectly. Sad how a song as great as this is so underrated, and nearly forgotten.
  • @CajunMonarch
My dad is the accordion player for Beausoleil. I love this song.

I was born in Louisiana and lived in a few different places and eventually moved back home. Louisiana will always hold a special place in my heart
