Baby (ANSEL ELGORT) – a talented, young getaway driver – relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. When he meets the girl of his dreams (LILY JAMES), Baby sees a chance to ditch his criminal life and make a clean getaway. whats better than just having backup glasses is that the ones he puts on last are the same type as the ones he originally had on, like he knew the second pair would be taken away

The fact that he doesn't show up again is one of the best subtle jokes in the movie.
  • Despite the outward hostility, Griff actually gave Baby sage advice about what was coming. He warned him that sooner or later he'd have blood on his hands and he'd better be prepared for the consequences. Then along comes Bats - a real psycho, and everything goes south fast.
  • I feel like the couple actually genuinely like Baby, and he told him not to answer because he likes him. They’re already older, and have to live with their decisions, but Babys young, and already has more money than he needs. It was basically a “you’ve had your fun, you’ve got your money, get out while you still can”

Bernthal was in this movie less than 10 minutes but he steals the scene

I'd love if this scene was just Jon constantly taking/slapping off his sunglasses for 10 minutes and it cuts to a mountain of glasses on the floor as Baby continues to pull out new ones
  • If there was ever a "Don't judge a movie by its title," this was it.

..."Next time Doc calls, don't pick up." (3:21) Dude, Buddy is literally giving the best possible advice to Baby. I think one of the biggest "charms" of the movie is the tragedy of how they had to become enemies.
  • As a kid, i got picked on quite a lot. Not looking for sympathy, but I’ve heard the line “Leave him alone” many, many times in my life, just like in this scene. And somehow that hurts more than the ridicule.

"if you don't see me again, it's 'cause I'm dead" >Doesn't show up for the rest of the movie
  • @2BagSam
"If you don't see me again, it's because I'm dead." Epic foreshadowing
  • im just wondering how many sunglasses he has in his pockets 😂

His impeccable timing with the ding seems to suggest that he's been in that elevator quite a few times, hinting at a backstory that we know we don't need, even though Bernthal is so very charismatic.

In an already awesome movie, these scenes where they mess with 'Baby' drive me nuts. It's kinda a cardinal sin of crime to screw with your getaway driver. If he/she has the background and proven skill, that's all they need for group success. Otherwise, you can accidentally become an unneeded distraction that can hurt the job (as the character 'Bats' does later on in the movie)... Or worse (as the movie reaches the finale) the driver turns on you out of revenge or desperation bringing the whole operation and group to its knees/death.

Slapping the sunglasses off of a persons face is grounds to throw down, anywhere. Except the movies
  • Apparently Kevin Spacey was livid he wouldn't get to work with an actual baby.

The difference between telling baby that they’ll be straight instead of done is nice really clears it up to us that baby can’t leave because the man knows he’s to good to let go
  • @shadows_star
I can't fathom why you'd want to make an enemy of the getaway driver haha.
