DEVASTATING Injury Leaves Solider With A LIFE-CHANGING Injury | Travis Mills

Published 2022-06-14
On April 10, 2012, United States Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills of the 82nd Airborne was critically injured on his third tour of duty in Afghanistan by an IED while on patrol, losing portions of both legs and both arms.

He is one of only five quadruple amputees from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to survive his injuries.

With incredible personal perseverance, the unwavering support of his family, and an incomparable sense of humor, Travis has forged his path to recovery and now works tirelessly as a motivational speaker, actor, author and an advocate for veterans and amputees.

In September 2013, Travis and his wife Kelsey founded the Travis Mills Foundation, a nonprofit organization, formed to benefit and assist post 9/11 veterans who have been injured in active duty or as a result of their service to our nation.

Travis lives by his motto: “Never give up. Never quit.”

  • Thank you for your service! I am a 47 year old male that just cried watching this video, because of how proud of you that I am. I envy your courage as a soldier and as a human being tackling this challenge. You are a hero.

I had the honor of meeting Travis last year. A story he didn’t say in this interview, really moved me. He said he worried what his daughter would think of him, lying in a hospital bed, all bandaged up and tubes running out of him. He described himself as being a monster in his daughter’s eyes. His wife placed his tiny baby girl on his chest and she smiled at him. He wasn’t a monster, he was dad. What a beautiful story of unconditional love.

I have two arms and two legs. I complain about small things life throwing at me, feeling defeated, depressed. Yet this man after all he went through keeps going with a strong positive attitude towards life. Inspiring. I won't give up, I won't quit. 🙇‍♂
  • I am a veteran of the US Army.Got out in 1974. I respect you and I thank you. I can’t speak for Afghanistan or Iraq, I can speak for Viet Nam. Sgt. Travis Mills you got my respect. Stay up Brother.
  • He brushed off his injuries like it’s nothing. Yet he choked up when he talked about his brothers. No one that wasn’t there will ever understand the brotherhood in the military.

Thank you for the sacrifices you made for our great country. And shoutout to the 9 doctors and 7 nurses that put 14 hours of grueling work in to save this hero’s life! And his amazing wife who stayed with him and nursed him back to health.

  • If there was ever a perfect example of the phrase "some people are built different," this guy is #1 on that list. Thank you so much for your service and sacrifice, from the bottom of my heart I am truly appreciative.
  • This is a true man. His frigging strength and steel resolve is intimidating. It's his mind that's scary. this is not even the military training. He's born with these heroic attributes. Seal said : when things get rough, you can always quit. Not this soldier. No way. 💪❤✝️
