Our very careful MET office expect the next eruption to start very soon and they also expect a big earthquake near Reykjavik from a giant fault that seems to be moving now. I can't say it's a total surprise, I have covered that fault in earlier videos but the MET office is very serious about this.

Get some extra rest, you will need to be at your best for a safe mid-winter trip. We can be patient. You do what's best for you. Thank you for all you do.
  • @VonL1963
Keep yourself safe Gylfi. Thinking of you and your fellow Icelanders.

Thank you for your sensible updates. Watching from Australia, and many channels seem to catastrophise the situation (honestly it is bad enough isn't it?). Your channel is calm, and gives the information as you know it. I appreciate your efforts.
  • @Peter_S_
Thank you Gylfi for the update and the beautiful scenery as always.
  • @araneasmith
I'm always amazed by Icelander's calm and determined attitudes to hard work and disaster, especially under such duress. I can't imagine it gets any easier even after so many eruptions. Much of the world could learn a lesson from Iceland. Thank you for your updates, please take care in the coming days!

You are an extremely talented videographer and documentarian. I look forward to anything you produce, and hope you stay safe and well in these difficult times for your homeland. Some day I hope to visit your beautiful volcano island and spend a lot of time with your horses. :-)

Thank you for the update. It must be very hard to adjust your plans to a volcanic activity that is so hard to predict, but I'm afraid the will be ample chance in the direct future to learn more about the volcanic an seismic processes.

It must be so difficult, living with so much uncertainty. Wishing you and all Icelanders, to keep safe and well 🕊️

It seems sensible to get some rest and work on the projects you have at home until the scientific data indicate to you that an eruption is imminent. Hoping for the best for everyone there! Greetings from Oregon!

Safely as you go Gylfi, rest first, please make sure you take your time and not others; you are always bang on time anyway, sending so much positivity your way, I really enjoyed your Journey to all of the Iceland villages and towns series that you did, not only was it really honest eye opening and entertaining but humorous and beautiful to. addictive watching. I would invite all people to watch that series you did. thank you for everything you do for us all, with so much amazing content , what a herculean achievement. alaya.
  • Right away I will admit I'm American. ducks in case tomatoes or mortars start flying I fell into (onto?) Your regular updates a little while ago and have been seriously hooked since. I remember (barely, I was 7) the little fit St. Helens had in '80. My mom even collected some of the ash. The Geological history of the planet has always facinated me. One of my favorite obsessions is this little "feature" that is Iceland. Thank you for taking the time to explain the history and processes at work without it becoming akin to a university lecture gently (mostly 😉) reminding us that as fascinating as the subject is, that we can't lose sight of the very serious impacts these events are having on the homes and livelihoods of the people in the area. Iceland is on my bucket list. (along with Pompeii, Anak Krakatau, St. Helens, Japan, the Hawaiian islands, among many other non-volcanic related sites. Unlike most Americans (yes, they drive me more than a bit crazy as well), I am a serious student of history, (along with another hundred or so topics) Both geological and archaeological (along with another hundred or so topics). There can be no such thing as too much knowledge. There should be no such thing as too much ignorance. Please keep safe everyone. No matter where you are.

the effectiveness of the barrier was impressive. even when the fissure opened behind it, it did its job and protected the town, even if its just to save what is left.
  • @kimmyers5648
Gylfi, I listen to your updates consistently because I hear the emotion in your voice when you describe the latest news. I keep tabs on what's going on there but mostly what I'm hearing elsewhere is very scientific, and rightly so. But you bring the humanity into the geology and I truly appreciate that. I will be visiting Iceland for the first time in April. My heart aches for the citizens of Grindavík and I really wish there was some way I could help them when I am there. If nothing else, I'll pump as much tourist money into the local economy!

Thanks Gylfi for the latest update on the situation in & around Grindavík. Takk Fyrir. Stay safe & take care on your travels down to Reykjavik. I’ve just booked my 2nd Icelandic adventure for August. I really can’t wait. The volcanic eruptions on Reykjanes won’t put me off coming back to Iceland.
