Apolo Ladra is truly a master of his craft. Here is a brief clip of him explaining the fundamentals and principles of Filipino martial arts, as well as teaching students and other teachers how to use and train with the blade. Knife training is something FMA practitioners begin on their first day of training.

in now on these day we need to learn to protect yourself and family, we need to learn a self tactic defense to fight back the enemies for good intention . Very deadly and dangerous tactics but it is very important to learn these kind of skills.

The self defense scrutiny is even more critical with a knife then with a gun.

Pinning the knife to the body like this looks cool and looks fun but there are so many reasons why this can go horribly wrong and it’s giving you a kind of ok hand fighting W in exchange for potentially having that hand completely taken out of the game along with potential afterial bleeding and near certain lacerations to the bicep and pec. The hours you’d need to put in to make sure you have this wrist control down so well that it still works when covered with blood means it’s only working for kali grandpas against street thugs in the Philippines. For the rest of us, we need to focus on the techniques that offer almost as much control without making us vulnerable due to something not going 100% out way in a real knife fight cuz guess what, nothing in a fight will ever go 100% our way.

The real deal not like all the fakes online. Offense and counter offense is the only defense in knife combat.
