I made this video a few years ago while I was still pretty new to YouTube. It’s long winded. Sometimes I consider making a version half as long with the same main points. Here’s the condensed version in writing if you don’t want to sit for twenty minutes. 1. A one length buzzed haircut is “round” meaning all one length. This only looks good for a short while but once the hair is long enough to stick out, bend, and move, it should be cut a little more square to avoid an awkward phase. 2. Once you’ve got a square haircut if you continue growing the top and tapering the bottom you eventually end up with a bowl cut. Stop tapering the bottom and let it all lay back. 3. If you have an undercut it might make your hair easier to live with in the short term but will cause problems in the long term as you grow it out. Once the sides are long enough to lay back it might be a better choice to lose length on top and get rid of the undercut so that the hair can all grow together in a more versatile shape— you’ll have less awkward hair this way. 4. When everything is long enough to flow back it should be very easy to live with and should always look relatively styled as long as it has a good shape to it (don’t visit the cheapest barber you can find or a fade specialist who dreads doing scissor cuts, find someone who does these cuts). The most frequent thing you’ll likely need is trimming the back as it’ll feel like you have a mullet eventually. If you’re into the mullet then leave it alone. 5. You’ve been sweeping your hair back for a year. Now your hair is long.
  • The easiest way to get past "awkward" is to stop deciding that every little thing is "awkward". It's just less artifical and overgroomed.

I’m 33 and All my life I’ve been trying to grow long hair. I’ve always just buzzed it after a certain point because of the “awkward” stage, I just couldn’t handle that stage lol. I was always lost on what to do along the way I couldn’t just not cut it. Nice guide to hopefully finally achieve it. 💪🏽💪🏽

This guy seems super smart and knowledgeable. I've never seen anyone explain this process in such intricate detail. What a fantastic teacher 👌🏻

I’m a non-professional that is growing hair out and just wanted to express thanks. This video was super digestible between the presentation structure, the whiteboard, and the example photos. I feel like I learned a lot but was never overwhelmed, never was left with an identified problem and no solution, and now I have a great resource to come back to as I hit those little stumbling blocks you mentioned and remember this video. Thank you!

although i’m more of a “not seeing a barber for a year” type of person when it comes to growing out my hair, it was very helpful, i’ve never heard anyone explaining it with this much detail. This is truly awesome, keep up the good work!

Upon failing to grow my hair numerous times, I can't absolutely confirm if this guy knows his stuff but I'd say this video is gold

My own hair growth success, I myself followed this daily regimen: Take morning sunshine every day for essential vitamin D. Consume veggies of various colors. Using paraben-free and fragrance free shampoo and massaging twice a week with hair oil from litttleextra's cooconion. Important to remember that hair growth is affected by overall health as well as circulation and diet.

This is literally EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for for MONTHS! I’ve read so many articles, watched so many “how to grow your hair out” videos and even been to multiple stylists and none of it came close to this level of detail and articulation. My god, why is this not explained in every “how to” article?? Thanks so much for posting this and how to I get you as my stylist asap?? 😂 I’m saving this video and showing it to my next stylist so they can understand 🙏
  • @frqt_
Ok now how do i explain this to my barber? 😅
  • @dunjel5616
You attend such a "complicated" subject, cut it down to the core and illustrate it fantastically. Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge in such a creative and understandable way!

I used to have long hairs and my awkward phase lasted for about 6 months (with various stages of awkwardness) but as soon as they reached around my shoulders, it looked glorious to be honest. Having long hairs is something that a lot of us men should try more often, it really makes you stand out tbh. I kinda want to let them grow again after this video haha.

My 5 year old wants to grow his hair out. This helped so much to keep him from the mullet stage! Thank you!

I’m an amateur hairstylist and this is the best explanation video I have seen for this process. Thank you Andrew 🎉❤

  • Thank you for making videos that are RELEVANT! It seems like every time I have a hair related question/issue I look on YouTube and there you are with a solution.
