Hello everyone! I hope you enjoy this video about the dinners my family of 6 ate over the last week. We even had a surprise trip and Dave had to man the dinners for a couple days. Don't worry - my easy dinner meal prep was just what was needed for quick meals.

I love how honest you are. Every night isn't a gourmet meal. It's sometimes quick and easy. Real life.
  • I agree so much with what you were saying about teaching your kids life skills!! My son started doing his own laundry when he was very young and cooks often!!
  • My first cake I made was a bit too runny. I put in 13 cups of water. I was 8. It is still a joke in the family.

My mother hated anyone in the kitchen with her. So, I used to hang out with my Italian grandmother when I was younger. I used to drive her nuts but she always taught me something! I learned a ton from her. My kids have no interest in learning anything to do with recipes. How do you get kids interested in learning? Thanks for your videos! I absolutely love them!!

So I’m watching this video in February 2021. When you showed drying squash seeds to plant and hoped you would grow some for next year I laughed out loud knowing your garden had an abundance of squash this year. What a blessing!
  • Amen on the life skills! My kids still need a bit more experience in the kitchen to expand their repertoire, but they could run the household expertly without Mom and Dad around...a fact that we all worked hard to realize and one of which I am very proud!

I am getting obsessed with coupons , clearance because of you ! Even though we don't have great deals in France I am trying to do my best!

For seasoning Mrs.Dash original is a combination of everything and makes every dish taste amazing. Also fresh grated onion 🧅 and garlic 🧄 goes with everything also. Salt and pepper can get really bland and boring after a while. Good luck 🍀
  • Thanks so much for your videos! I’m 21 and grew up in a house that usually ate out instead of cooked. My fiancé and I just bought our first house so we’re both learning to cook and be consistent with cooking, you are so right that cooking is a lost art myself and so many others didn’t grow up learning how to cook or have many role models to cook for us. I watch your videos and in always surprised that I never see you guys grab dinner, especially after seeing you get home an hour later than usual in my house we would have just gone through fast food instead of making a meal out of what was left at home. I’m really inspired by you and all you’re videos!

I miss my old garden so much. Im living in an apartment now and so i don't have anywhere to put a garden or small plants. It sucks.

Absolutely agree with teaching the kids as soon as my kids starting showing interest in the kitchen around 8 I've had them involved and now teenagers they each get a night of the week were they cook dinner and they love it!
  • I love that you are teaching them :) my father had me planning and cooking dinner once a week until the day i moved out. I am so happy he did! I grew to love cooking and i could cook actually meals instead of eating top ramen all the time.

I feel the same way about cooking, I honestly feel that it is a lost art today with all of the doordash and food delivery and take out and fast food. I always say I could whip up something faster than I can sit a drivethru line. My cooking is actually faster, easier and takes much less gas. You always have lots of ingredients in your pantry fridge and freezer. Your meals look great!!

My mom started us off with pancakes, cookies, oven and stovetop, and easy one pan meals. I picked up bread and crockpot stuff since. Makes life so much easier!

I loved this! I love that you stressed teaching your kids to cook! I have already had my 3 year old helping to stir up muffin batter and she loved being a "big helper"!

My daughters played vb all through elementary, middle and high school. We also had the dinner sign up sheet. We made either tacos or meatball subs because I was able to cook and prep toppings (chopping/slicing yourself=way cheaper than pre-sliced) the night before..then put in a crock pot and cooler to transport and keep warm/chilled until the game. The girls said they were the team’s favorite dinners bc most people would buy pizzas, sandwiches or hot dogs. They got burned out! 😂 I usually would try to find ground turkey on sale as it’s so much cheaper and tastes the same with the taco spices and pizza sauce. Oh and we set up a yogurt bar for dessert. I’d buy large containers of vanilla yogurt, and toppings (granola, fruit, chocolate chips, sprinkles etc). Super cheap and easy. Plus, I also taught all my kids to cook early, too. I’m opposite from you, 3 girls, 1 boy. They’re all adults now and fantastic cooks. My middle daughter actually went to school for culinary bc she loved it so much. I always tried to include them or just have them hang out when I cooked, and they picked up a lot. I learned young, as well, from my mom some but mostly granny. She made everything scratch. By 12, I was cooking dinner almost every night until I moved out at 20. (My mom’s good, but my dad said she overcooked, or burned 😂 dinner. She hates undercooked so she charred the heck outta most food lol). I’m glad I learned early, as it made me understand different food’s qualities and was able to adjust my cooking based on that understanding. We LOVE to cook! ❤️ Well, I just wrote a flipping book, didn’t I? 😂😂🙄 Oop

I know this is an older video, but you are absolutely right about teaching kids how to cook and manage money. I love these cooking sessions. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

I grew spaghetti squash when i was a kid and it grew very well and it tasted even better. It needs alot of sun and water every day.
