Personally I love the fact that they knew the dad wouldn't say he loved him there. It's my favorite thing in these types of stories where it's not "the magic fairies fixed our broken family" but "the magic fairies helped us process the problems in our family so we can accept it as it is" They didn't get their dad back, but the kids did end up with a different dynamic that no longer required the dad to come back and "save" his son

Did nobody read the books!? They were AMAZING. Not just well written but also beautifully styled with pencil drawn artworks that immersed you so deeply

I watched this movie, The Golden Compass, and The Water Horse on repeat as a kid. So many times. Any time my parents let me chose the movie it would be one of those 3.

For so long, I thought this movie was a nightmare when I was a kid. Until I walked in on my sibling watching it one day, I was so confused that day

This and Lemony Snicket were surprisingly very good at cramming several books into one movie without making it feel too rushed or have underdeveloped characters

Out of all the fantasy films that came in the wake of Rings/Potter, Spiderwick Chronicles is the one I feel is the most underrated. Whereas so many other were bogged down with too much setup for sequels that never happened, Spiderwick was like "yeah, we're going to explain the world, tell a complete story, have an emotional heartbeat and be a thrill-a-minute all in less than two hours." And boy, did they pull it off.

This movie legitimately traumatized me as a kid. I remember being terrified that there was something in my walls. The goblins didn't scare me it was just the fact something could be in my walls.

They absolutely wanted to get Dylan and Cole Sprouse, but Nick couldn’t get them because they belonged to Disney

I'm surprised you didn't mention the scene where Mallory's hair got tied to the bed. That scene terrified me as a kid and It's still the first thing I think about whenever I remember the film. Also people referring to the actor as the "good doctor" dude and not Charlie from Charlie and the chocolate factory hurts my soul.

The amount of nostalgia I’m getting from watching this is crazy. I used to love this movie but that being said, it scared the absolute shit out of me. And it was on my mind ALL the time
