I used to love walmart back in the day. We got most of our clothes, toys, items from Walmart. The 90s - 2000s style with the Star in the middle, the smiley face. Felt so genuine and classy. Nowadays Walmart doesn't have the same charm that it used to have.

I miss Walmart from 2000-2009, before there were only supercentres and stuff. I liked when it was simple and classic. I loved being a kid and always getting those smiley face stickers when I went to walmart

Ah yes, the days of stacking high and selling it cheap, taking care of customers and associates alike and treating them with respect. Oh how I'm missing those days
  • Most people would want to go back in time to stop/change events for their benefit. I’d want to go back in time just to see the old versions of stores and see the ones that were still around.

Their electronics department used to be amazing in the late 90's-early 00's; there was a huge selection of videos games for PC, Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and SEGA. There was also a ton of great selections for movies and music, too. Now, at least the few stores I've been to, the department has decreased dramatically and their selection for movies and games are almost non-existent in comparison to back then. They do have a nice selection of vinyl records, though haha.

Sam Walton would turn in his grave if he seen the horrible customer service today
  • I miss the old Wal-Mart. When it was just the store and those oversized supercenters

Poor man his company became the most heartless company

The old, non-supercenter Walmart from my childhood is a locale that comes up frequently in my dreams for some reason. Inside the store, the vestibule entrance with the arcade games and coin op machines, and the parking lot that was shared with the United supermarket next door.

It’s really strange that Wal-Mart has always been a huge staple of America but it doesn’t really feel that way. I always felt like it was a recent 2000’s things, I never see it mentioned or even shown in movies or mention in news pr media back then.

I remember when my town got a super center. We were the first in Tennessee and one of the first in the nation, I believe. It was like 93 or 94. It was mind blowing as a kid. They had a massive bakery and donut area with as many types of donuts as you can imagine. Fresh baked bread.. tons of live fish in tanks, toys galore. It was truly amazing for my small community to get such a big store. Unfortunately Walmart has changed so much over the years and not for the better.
  • I have had 2 Supercenters in my area for as long as I can remember. Looking back, I can remember Walmart being a more interesting place to shop. They used to sell all kinds of specialty stuff, but they stopped I guess because it cost too much to maintain. I remember Walmart almost looking darker and kinda more chill, but that could just be my imagination. Nowadays, they seem to design everything around making the most money possible, not making things cheap without compromise. Seriously, one of the Walmart stores in my area now has one way gates at the entrance to keep people from stealing stuff. Also, before corona, they had people scanning every receipt for some reason similarly to Sam's, just while still having the buzzers, unlike Sam's. I'm glad they stopped that because of the pandemic. The other Walmart in my area actually still doesn't have the gates and still feels a little more like an old Walmart since it hasn't been heavily remodeled recently, but Walmart just doesn't feel quite the same anymore.
