If you have a manual tire changer or are thinking of getting one and want to know more about them, here's my manual tire changer one year update with some thoughts & tips I've learned along the way.

With 30 tires and counting now, this little manual tire changer with the very popular duckhead modification attachment has been one of the most useful little shop tools I've purchased in a long time. It has paid for itself along with all the other accessories and consumables several times over never mind the time it has saved. With that said, it does take a little practice to get both proficient and efficient using it. Hopefully these tips will help you shorten your own learning curve and save you from making a few mistakes along the way.

The convenience of being able to perform your own tire services at home along with that wonderful DIY feeling of being totally self reliant is hard to overstate :) No more tire shop wheel damage, no more tire shop needless & costly upsells, no more tire substitutions and no more bait & switch sales tactics; all while working at your own pace and being as detailed oriented as you wish.

Thank you SO MUCH for this information. Tire shops in my area have gotten crazy expensive on mounting and balancing. Also, flat repair is also crazy expensive. I do all my own car repairs, but never tackled tires. I'm now going to order my own tires and do it myself! I'm grateful for folks like yourself who take YOUR time to share this great information. It is much appreciated!

My favorite bead seating trick is to use a narrow blow gun instead of a tire chuck, with the the valve core removed of course.

I've been making my own motorcycle tire equipment for years and the duck head was the big breakthrough in doing it properly and easily. The bead clamps too; I use 2. Of all of the DIYer tire changing videos, yours is one of very few that show how the duck head is properly used. Great big kudos to you. Well done. Well explained.

Good stuff, I bought one of these probably 10 years ago, its saved me a ton of money, same with the bubble balancer!

Outstanding videos sir. I’m a DIY guy and have considered purchasing a manual tire changer and balancer for years, but I was very reluctant until now. The equipment mods and techniques you have demonstrated now have me convinced that this is a viable solution to the tire shop. I will now build my own setup and say goodbye to waiting around the tire shop for hours only to drive away and feel that disappointing wobble on a brand new tire. Excellent series.

I'm not that far from tire shop, and I have the $ to pay them, however I like the idea of behing self sufficient, I have the space and skill for that, Will buy one of those tool !!! Thanks for sharing.

Spot on on the balancing. For me personally, it's not worth the money to buy a balancer. It would just end up being more of a headache. I'd be removing wheels to clean or rebalancing them every month. I deal with a lot of deep mud, a little deep snow, and some ice. So, I use airsoft BBs as balance beads. If I get a wheel full of mud during a recovery, when I get back to good road the BBs move around in the tire to rebalance the extra weight....

This video just found me! VERY well done content! I'm looking to get a manual tire changer, and I also plan to do the duck head modification. I'm looking for a Coats balance too. I'm forced to purchase these items DUE TO TIRE SHOPS. Imagine that. Tired of relying on somebody else, because everybody else seems not to care. I'm a self sufficient dude. Many skills, machinist, welder, home everything, electrician, mechanic, etc, etc. Just subscribed! Your like the shop teacher that lives in the garage. Thank you. Thumbs up too.

They need to pay you and give you royalties to use your add on attachments to better improve what they seemed to have a hard time coming up with.. Plus it was well worded the way you explained it for even a woman to understand and do as you explained to. *Subscribed...

15:00 Pro tip for getting that initial bead seal - Grab a ratchet strap and loop it around the circumference of the mounted tire, and tighten it just enough that it "Michelin mans" the centerline a bit, which will squeeze the beads outward toward the rim lips, providing a nice airtight contact. Lemme know if that works for you.
  • @johnmicalizzi126
You know what you're doing. I've been doing this stuff since I was 10 years old and I remember when the rep guy came in with the first FMC balancer and then we went to the new style tire machine Hoffman! I'm 64 yrs old!
