TFL is very picky about buses, they banned Citaro C2s because apparently they were "too heavy" and could "impact the environment" when actually the C2 is one of the most greenest buses on the market. So TFL won't let operators buy full-size single decks like Citaro's (once very popular, and still would if TFL didn't ban it). With electric buses now becoming popular, we might see the eCitaro drive in London

I'm surprised to hear you know these bus routes of this area so well (and the area itself). Well, maybe I shouldn't be surprised. I lived in and around these areas (Brixton, Streatham Hill, Streatham Vale, Norwood) in the period from 2000 to 2014. This route brings a lot of nostalgia. It's almost eerily real. You can even see the old building that the Bingo Hall used to be in, a few hundred yards before Streatham Hill Station, and the actual flat I lived in on the next block. Our flat was on the first floor on the corner of the block, and my bedroom faced the Bingo hall. That's hilarious.

Sometimes, on some E200 buses actually do have beeping on both, I think it is only on older versions of E200s and the newer ones are only on the closer ones.
