What does heart pounding sound like? Wardruna's newest release "Hertan" is intensely amazing.

Published 2024-05-24
Those of you know that I love Heilung with a passion, and Wardruna should be considered no different. The Old Norse or Norwegian chanting, the drums, the vibe - everything about it screams viking. Which, I love vikings.

Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Wardruna performing "Hertan" for the first time.

hearing Wardruna live was the most spiritual experience I have ever had.
  • @Avetarx
This song is not only heard, but really felt on a spiritual level, and I'm so glad that Elizabeth talks about the importance of music in schools and therapy!

Wardruna, Heilung, Skald, each band in this genre are very skilled and make brilliant music. However, since they try to incorporate some traditional instruments and rhythms into their music, the audience gets the wrong idea that this is genuinely what traditional tribal music was like in times long past. These bands have explained that they are simply inspired by old and ancient cultures, but aren't trying to be accurate and authentic to the history. A lot of people don't know this and get the wrong idea still, so imma just leave this here. Thank you Elizabeth for yet another brilliant analysis of skilled musicians.

I really love the music that Wardruna makes, I once saw them live at a festival, they had a really late time slot and I was so tired, that I almost did not go to see them, but in the end I still went and it was such an amazing experience. I had my eyes closed fot almost the entire show and just took the music in, felt it in every part of my body. Hope I can see them some time again

Wardruna was absolutely amazing live. They came to Calgary last year and it was definitely one of my all time favourite performances.

I would highly recommend coming to Denver on Oct 3rd, 2024. Wardruna will be playing at Red Rocks which is quite possibly the best concert location for their music. My wife and I saw them there a couple years ago and the concert was magical.

He does a great live version of Odin with the band faun what a powerful voice the song makes me want to throw axes

Had been too long since I listened to Wardruna. Really enjoyed this new song. More people need to give this music a listen, as I am sure many would enjoy it.

Greetings from Norway, loved this =)

You really should revisit Eivør, who did a performance of ‘Helvegen’ with Wardruna. Her performance of ‘Falling Free (Live at the Old Theatre in Torshavn)’ is one of the great live performances from one of the best female vocalists.

Ms. Charismatic! I would like to introduce you to something magical. I hope you cover this band someday.. Porcupine Tree. They have a wide range of style. I would recommend listening to the songs "Navigator", which is an instrumental one, and "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here", which displays their vocal and musical talent. Don't let the name of the band fool you.. I know you would appreciate the beauty and majesty that is their music.

I've been quietly watching your channel for quite some time. You are really talented and your channel is a gift. And with Wardruna, I've discovered another gem thanks to you, even though I've been really into music for a couple of decades now. I fell down the rabbit hole of Nordic folk music, just like I fell down the rabbit hole of Ren, also thanks to you. I feel I have to thank you now (actually for quite some time) and also, but definitely not only, for your musical content. It's so important, no matter where you live or what language you speak, to talk about mental illness and therapy, and not 'just' people who suffer or therapists, but in general. Because everyone has a psyche and every psyche can become ill. And yet the whole subject is still not discussed as it should be. I'm from Germany (and part of me is 'from' Highgarden) and here in Germany I get easier and better treatment for back pain than for depression, for example. Back pain can also be a symptom of depression, but as it affects the whole body, it is probably just one symptom and not the actual illness that is being treated. And music, as you said, is so important for mental health and treating not just an already damaged psyche, but the psyche in general. It's best to start with musical education as early as possible and also as part of building resilience, and music (lessons) should be included in every kindergarden and every school. Music is a powerful tool and coping skill and in general to stay healthy. (Ren knows.) It is so important that people with a wide (global) reach talk about the whole issue because the more people talk about it and the more known these people are, like Ren, like you, the less it can be suppressed. Thank you so much for your words! On a more personal note, I would love it if you could respond to German acts as well, because there is also a huge rabbit hole of great singers and bands like Herbert Grönemeyer (try "Der Weg" in a live version for example), AnnenMayKantereit (AMK) (I think you might just love them, try their covers like "Tom's Dinner" or "Roxanne"), Nena ("99 Luftballons"), Mine ("Schminke") or Reinhard Mey ("Nein, meine Söhne geb' ich nicht."). Stay strong!

Loved this video from the get-go. Enjoyed your comment and analysis. Thank you.

I love Wardruna and I love Faun. So I was beyond excited when they collaborated on two fantastic songs, “Galdra” and “Odin”. Highly recommended for all fans of enchanting pagan folk music.
  • Every Warduna song is a journey, I listen to them over and over again and I never get tired of them.
  • @blacklake13
There's definitely something hypnogogic about Wardruna
  • You know, Elizabeth, when I was a kid, around 8 years old, I was given the gift of music. Now, at 56, I still have it and as you have spoken of, it's vital to life. It's one of the things that keeps me alive............
