Love the marble backing on the original control panels... You just don't see things like that much anymore

Really cool. Old electronics and stuff are intriguing. Reminds me of this time I was working in an old factory I hopped up onto the roof of an add on office and came across 480V live bare wires from a really old crane they had in service. No warnings posted near the ladder. They were hard to see given the age of everything Hit the lines with my hardhat. Was very grateful for wearing my hardhat that day, saved me.

If know one knows why there is a flywheel in between the turbine and the generator (I did not either but had seen them) A really old time hydro guy told me it was frequency support. Back in the old days when hydro's were first built many powered trolley system. Back then these was no soft start system. When a trolley motor was thrown onto the system the fly wheel helped keep up speed until the governor and wickets could respond and restore speed. 30 years hydro here.
  • Nice old plant. Neat to see manual synchronization. A lot of operators are missing out on doing it the old fashioned way nowadays. The oldest plant at my company was placed in service in 1893. The original impulse turbine and generator are on display in the plant, but the new(!) 1930's vintage machine is still running to this day. Our oldest plant with the original generators was placed online in 1899 and is still in service.

I love the old equipment mixed in with the new. We have the same thing.

slow in the fast direction at 11 oclock position, well done, we have auto synchronization now these skills are becoming a thing of the past. you want to sync the generator so that the voltage on the generator is slightly leading the line voltage to prevent your generator from acting like a motor

Interesting to see an old station with some electronics.

Love these! Brings new meaning to “everything is humming along!”
  • Cool videos ! Thanks 🙏🏼 Seeing the Westinghouse badge is a bit emotional, reminds me the collaboration with Nikola Tesla. What a story…
  • Mr. Ben Hendrickson , All Good ? Today they are automating the whole operation . Start it up , set the frequency and voltage and when itis balanced , do the synchronization and pick the load . The old hydroelectric plants were like that . Hugs from Brazil .

What a crazy mix of old and new tech haha love it

싱크로스코프가 시계방향으로 돌 때 11시쯤에 차단기 투입. 반대방향으로 돌 때 투입하면 동기전동기가 되어 임펠러가 망가질 수 있음

old school flashing bulbs with the synchronization meter. at just after 3 minutes he is getting it synchronized the bulbs flash slower and the meter slows down until at about 3:47 he gets it synced , the meter stops spinning the bulbs go out and he pushes in the tie in to the grid.

Very nice! It would be great if you could voice over what you are doing and what the different items on the switchboard are for. Thanks!

I assume the lights are to indicate when the phase is matched?
  • @robmurg
That is very, very cool. Am I the only one thinking 'INFRA'?
