LYRICS

Wish I was too dead to cry
My self-affliction fades
Stones to throw at my creator
Masochists to which I cater

You don't need to bother, I don't need to be
I'll keep slipping farther
But once I hold on, I won't let go til it bleeds

Wish I was too dead to care
If indeed I cared at all
Never had a voice to protest
So you fed me shit to digest
I wish I had a reason, my flaws are open season
For this, I gave up trying
One good turn deserves my dying

You don't need to bother, I don't need to be
I'll keep slipping farther
But once I hold on, I won't let go til it bleeds

Wish I'd died instead of lived
A zombie hides my face
Shell forgotten with its memories
Diaries left with cryptic entries

And you don't need to bother, I don't need to be
I'll keep slipping farther
But once I hold on, I won't let go til it bleeds

You don't need to bother, I don't need to be
I'll keep on slipping farther
But once I hold on
I'll never live down my deceit

It's so amazing how many of us deal with depression and never say anything about it and keep it inside

Every time down the years, someone's said to me that heavy metal vocalists can't sing, I direct them to this song without telling them who he is. And then when they say "ooh, he's got a really good voice", I'll put on a random Slipknot song, usually Before I Forget, and watch their faces when they realise it's the same person. And you know what? Nearly 10 years of that and it still hasn't gotten old.

I sat there with a pistol in my mouth. I thought for sure it would be my end. I sat there listening to this song on repeat just trying to build the courage up to pull the trigger. That’s been about 13 years now and im thankful that I didn’t. My life has always been hell but I was once so low that I felt that not even God cared. This songs means so much to me. It’s more than just some deep lyrics to good music.
  • An addict I will always be, but in recovery I will stay. I felt connected to this song well before I discovered drugs, and this song was my recovery song. I haven't touched anything in over 8 years, and I am so proud of how far I have gotten. What makes me more proud is that I did it alone. I had friends who never knew about my struggles with drugs, hid it from my family, and suffered in silence. But the same way I suffered, I began to find my inner strength, my willingness to quit, and my willingness to learn and grow. 8 years ago, I never would have thought this life possible, 8 years later and I just wish I could hug my past self and let her know, life will still be challenging, but it looks a lot brighter. Through the years, I listened to this song when I was struggling, sang my heart out to it, pouring myself into every lyric just to break my urges to break my sobriety. Honestly I will thank Corey Taylor for helping me through my sobriety.

My son and I always loved this song. My son passed away january 27, 2019. I cherish the fact I took him to his first slipknot concert before he passed away. It was so memorable that I was able to do that for him and, we had a lot of fun and, an amazing time together.
  • 11 years later, if you're watching this, you're a legend. R.I.P Joey Jordison, we love you forever 😢
  • I struggled with addiction and depression for years. Now I’m 8 years clean and I sometimes listen to this. And just take it one day at a time!!! 🙏

I now understand why Chester Bennington loved this band. Deep lyrics that make sense to me and this band is severely underrated. 😮

According to lead singer Corey Taylor, this song is about "losing yourself and finding yourself all in one breath." It was written in a car on the way back home to the state of Iowa.

I remember when I came to this video years ago and was depressed. Left a comment saying I felt like killing myself. The amount of comments I got back telling me to hang in there and gave support was so refreshing, and for once I saw the internet as not this cold place, but a place where like-minded people helped one another. One of my favorite memories and happy to say I'm nowhere near where I was then. Thanks to the Stone Sour fans and this song 🙂

Stone Sour's best song. Possibly one of the best songs ever written imo. 20 some years later and I can still say that.
  • @oasisblonde
Corey Taylor's voice just sends chills through my soul, beautiful, yet powerfull.

Too all the people out there that suffer through the depression, you are loved and there is a reason you are here, you have a purpose, you are great and you are loved. Be strong you can beat it
  • @enyotheios2613
This song and Snuff, shows that Corey Taylor is one of the greatest poets of our era.

Corey Taylor is such a fascinating man. He's so talented and multifaceted, a true musical genius that I've added on the top tier alongside a few others
  • So many years later, this song still gets me every time. We all have that one soul song. This is mine.
  • @dylanhuntful
This song is so publicly underrated it amazes me. What talent.

"You don't need to bother, I don't need to be" The amount of resignation in these few words sends shivers down my spine.
