Soap doesn’t really attract dirt but requires friction to activate (like a rubbing boards) but our washers don’t generate enough friction for soap to be effective. Thank you so much for this recipe for detergent and for understanding the difference! I’ll look forward to trying this.

Thank you, Amy, I've been thinking about homemade laundry detergent for a couple weeks now. So glad I found you on youtube. I'm reducing my use of plastic and chemicals, and encouraging others to do the same. I will tell everyone to look for you on youtube, AND tell them to click thumbs up.

I'd love to see your recipe for the Sal Suds shower spray. I use Sal Suds as well so just curious how you mix it up for the shower.

Thank you! I’ve been using the powdered “soap” detergent for a couple of years.. noticed clothes don’t look “clean” also gunk build up transfers to clean clothes in washer..usually on my husbands white/light get dress shirts!! I’m definitely going to try this! Thanks so much!

Be aware that using a soap-based detergent will invalidate the warranty on some (if not all) HE washing machines. The soap gunks up washers. I quit using homemade soap-based detergents because my towels stopped absorbing anything and my clothes were dingy.

Thank you I heard no such thing as detergent for this I’m glad to see this.
