I think you're taking the platitude out of context. The finish line at the Olympics isn't the finish line it's talking about. It's more referring to the grave. The point is to focus on a career, not individual events/accomplishments. Sure someone can pick up a dozen or more properties and stop investing after that one deal, whereas someone else might pick up hundreds of properties over the course of their entire life. You're right though, the speed at which an individual can realistically pick up properties is very important. And many investment channels just don't cover how inefficient it is doing them one at a time considering humans don't live for centuries.
